Have you ever thought what a perfect building might look like? If you did, 211 Elizabeth Street just might be on your short list. The architects of this distinctive seven-story structure designed a timeless gem masterly incorporating an old-world European element.
Foremost, 211 Elizabeth fits seamlessly into the streetscape of this historical Nolita block. About the only characteristic missing from the elevation is an external fire escape Walking past, one would just assume that the building has been standing at the corner of Elizabeth and Prince for more than a century.
This celebrated architect/design team of Roman and Williams crafted this mixed-use property inside and out. The architects’ historical sensibilities can be seen in the materials and design of this award-winning structure. The exterior elevation is clad in hand made articulated brick accentuated with oversized recessed windows. The bricks, a story unto themselves, were styled for 211 Elizabeth and laid by a team of Irish masons. According to the architectural team, the bricks were designed in such a way so to “evoke” the past. The retail level is set apart by its distinguished storefronts, rich in architectural details and smothered in high gloss black oil paint.
Completed in 2009, 211 Elizabeth Street offers just fifteen condominium residences for the lucky few. The apartments have a dramatic, almost seductive flair, highlighted by old-world styled millwork accented by the high gloss paint. Other features include walnut herringbone floors, tall ceilings, oversized double-hung windows, glass transoms and wood burning fireplaces. The open kitchens are a bit glam with a signature R&W finish. Using Danish walnut cabinetry the designers painted the fronts of the cabinets black (again high gloss oil) and left the frames their natural walnut color. Not to be overlooked, the master baths have been designed to resemble what you might find in a grand European Hotel. The baths are decked out in slabs of Calacatta Gold marble and feature double vanities, double mirrors and brass fixtures.
Given the low number of apartments at 211 Elizabeth, turnover is rare. The most recent sale, a one-bedroom on the fifth floor, sold for $2.1 million in August 2019, just under $2700 per square foot. At present, the only available residence is the Penthouse apartment, a five room, two bedroom home with a landscaped wrap terrace. The asking price on this jewel is $8.95 million and is available through Compass.
Building features include a full-time concierge, fitness facility, bike and private storage and a common roof deck.
Not surprisingly, this fabulous building has attracted its share of celebrities, including Gabriel Byrne, Karlie Kloss, Alexa Joel. Undoubtedly, the building will attract its share of the rich and famous for years to come. For full details view on Linecity.com
