Indulgence in West Chelsea – 522 West 29th Street, 3-B

Luxury living is a phrase that’s practically synonymous with New York, and this next edition to our “Apartments We Love” series takes luxury to a whole new level. Featuring a meticulously crafted interior with high-end finishes, soaring ceilings, and an indulgent 20-foot private pool, residence 3-B at the Soori High Line is a home that may set the bar.

Located in West Chelsea, just steps to the Highline and due south of Hudson Yards, the Soori High Line is one of only two Soori branded properties in the world, the other being the Soori Bali in Indonesia. Both projects were designed and curated by renowned architect Soo K. Chan, who presided over every aspect of the exterior and interior design. Built in 2017, the 11-story building contains just 31 units as well as a host of sublime amenities that make for the ultimate resort-like lifestyle.

The Highline and the surrounding neighborhood has become a magnet for some of the world’s most indulgent architects and seductive buildings. Chan joins an extended list of starchitects that have considered Chelsea fertile ground for their fabulous visions.  The core of Chan’s design for the Soori High Line was to seamlessly transition the indoor and outdoor spaces. In total, 16 of the building’s residences have private pools, his signature element. 

Residence 3-B at 522 West 29th Street serves to evoke a sense of splendor and tranquility. The home, true to form, feels like a privately commissioned residence.  Five-star detailing abounds throughout the 2,278 square feet of interior space, which, when combined with its muted color palette of greys and whites, create an interior style that is decidedly urban modern.

Upon entering the residence through a private elevator landing, you’re greeted by an expansive living area with 18-foot-high ceilings and a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. In designing this space, Chan sought to create a sense of volume, both from looking up and outward. Massive windows allow for exquisite light throughout the home, while a series of steel fins on the exterior façade provides a feeling of enclosure and protection. A stunning gas fireplace with a floor-to-ceiling marble hearth adorns one wall while the wall that separates the living space from the rest of the apartment is clad in large oak panels.  

But it’s the private pool that takes this apartment to another level of opulence. Accessible through the living room, the 20-foot long, 4-feet deep heated ionized saltwater pool is like a taste of pure indulgence. Ingeniously incorporated into the living space and featuring a solid timber pool deck and a carefully designed lighting array, the pool is as architecturally distinctive as it is novel.

Moving to the kitchen, the transition from the living room is both smooth and seamless. You can chalk that up to the Poliform design, which aims for an integrated and highly functional style, one that mirrors the home’s overall aesthetic. Notable features include Bavarian Spessart oak and high-gloss lacquer cabinetry, Caesarstone Piatra Grey waterfall edge countertops and a set of top-range appliances from Miele and Sub-Zero. 

Continuing along the radiant heated floors (the floors throughout the apartment enjoy radiant heat) of Azul Grey limestone, we reach the bedrooms. There are three in total, all of which have en suite baths with walk-in showers. There’s also a large terrace that can be reached from both the master bedroom and one of the secondary rooms. The master suite features a custom-Poliform closet and an ensuite bathroom that is positively decadent. There is a glamorous deep soaking tub, a marble-clad double-vanity sink and easy access to the private pool. Chances are you’ll get up a little earlier to pamper yourself before work.

The building amenities at the Soori High Line are on the level of a five-star resort and include a 24-hour doorman, concierge services, a fully equipped gym and spa center, dedicated yoga and Pilates studio, a residents-only lounge and on-site parking that’s available for separate purchase.
