Bold and Breathtaking in Williamsburg – 88 Withers Street

By Linecity, March 28, 2022

It’s not quite the Jenga building across the river in Manhattan but it’s just as cool. It’s daring. It’s different. It’s 88 Withers Street in Williamsburg and it makes the latest edition of our “Buildings We Love” series.

88 Withers Street, also known as Element 88, might just be one of the most unique buildings in Williamsburg. The luxury condo is located on the south side of Withers Street between Meeker Avenue and Leonard Street. The building rises eight floors and contains 33 apartments, including four penthouse units.  Built in 2019, the project was developed by Ryback Development and designed by Zproekt Architecture.

With angles, protrusions and setbacks, there is nothing symmetrical about the Neo-Brutalist designed structure. In fact, it looks as if the floors are randomly piled on top of one another. Depending on what side of the building you’re standing, you’ll get a slightly different visual experience. Whether you have a penchant for design or not it definity captures the artistic spirit of the neighborhood.

Besides its brilliant aesthetics there are some technical aspects that make the building special too. Element 88 makes use of state-of-the-art concrete and insulation technology, which dramatically improves its energy efficiency. The perimeter of the building has 10-inch-thick poured concrete walls (most buildings have 6-inch thick walls) that are specially insulated. Twelve-inch thick concrete slabs make up the building floors. The use of additional concrete ensures a lasting design and guards against wear and tear.

The property sits relatively close to the expressway, so the building was designed with oversized triple-glazed laminated windows to reduce exterior noise.

The interiors are just as fabulous as the building’s unique exterior.  Apartment features include 12-foot-ceilings, Scavolini custom kitchens, herringbone oak flooring and 10-foot-high doors. High-end fixtures and finishes grace each home and the units are equipped with top-end appliances, stackable washer/dryer units and smart thermostats.

Element 88 Park, a 6,000 square foot shared common space is situated on the second floor.  The indoor and outdoor space has a chic design and offers a wet bar, kids play zone, grilling area and lounge. Additional building amenities include a common garden, shared roof deck, pet grooming room and a fitness center.  The building also boasts custom workspaces in the basement area that can be used for home offices, wine cellars or art studios.

Element 88 has a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units.  The average sale price over the past 36 months has been $1.143 million with an average price per square foot of $1278.  Currently there is just one apartment available for sale. Unit 3-G is a 2-bedroom, 2 bath, 959 square-foot residence with an asking price of $1.349 million.

The listing is being represented by Brian Joo of R New York. To learn more about this incredible building please visit Linecity
