Property Description for 754 Madison Street

A gut-renovated 2-family townhouse that blends an array of sleek finishes with restored original details, 754 Madison is an exemplar of modern convenience and traditional charm. Features of the home include brand new hardwood floors, a finished basement, contemporary open plan layouts, tall windows, a luxurious owner’s duplex with a pair of fireplaces and skylights, an income-producing rental unit, a parlor level patio, and a lush backyard with a tree, a thick layer of grass, and a large wooden deck. The owner’s duplex—which occupies the first and second levels of the house—opens directly into an expansive living and dining space. Restored original details in this room include stately wainscoting, a regal fireplace mantel and surround, a stained glass window feature, beautiful window and door frames, and an elegant staircase with intricate spindles and banisters. A spacious eat-in kitchen lies beyond a pair of French doors. The kitchen leads out onto a private patio and is equipped with herringbone tile floors, marble countertops, an island, cream colored cabinetry, an arabesque tile backsplash, and a suite of high-end stainless steel appliances. A powder room with a washer/dryer finishes the first floor. Three bedrooms and two full bathrooms sit on the upper level of the duplex. The central landing is anchored by a pair of skylights and an exposed brick wall. The master bedroom possesses two closets, restored window shutters, as well as a pristine en-suite bathroom with marble walls, a heated towel rack, a claw-foot bathtub, and a window overlooking the backyard. The remaining two bedrooms share easy access to a full bathroom that has its own skylight. The garden level rental unit has a private entrance, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a washer/dryer, and direct yard access. The living space features an exposed brick wall, while the kitchen boasts stainless steel appliances and high-end finishes. Each bedroom maintains a comfortable level of privacy thanks to a slit-wing layout. Nestled on a quiet street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, 754 Madison is close to a number of restaurants, grocery stores, delis, cafes, and shops, and is only a few blocks away from the J/M/Z subway lines. Reinaldo Salgado Playground sits just down the street.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
