Property Description for 283 Empire Blvd

This is the turn-key townhouse you've been looking for. Situated three blocks from Prospect Park, this early-20th century home was recently lovingly renovated to suit modern tastes, while maintaining the original glory of the era. A landscaped garden greets you as you enter the property from the sidewalk, leading to the main, parlor level entrance, where you will find wonderfully preserved crown molding in the vestibule.

The parlor level boasts original hardwood floors, 12' ceilings and an open plan living-kitchen area, with enough room for a large dining table plus a full living room suite. South-facing bay windows flood this level with light throughout the day.

The kitchen features a hand-laid tile backsplash, Blomberg bottom-freezer refrigerator, Whirlpool stove and microwave, plus a super-sized sink, soft-close white shaker cabinetry and stone countertops. A half-bath (with a pocket door!) and a large pantry lead to the spacious and bright back garden, which awaits your customization.

The bedroom level features a king-sized master bedroom with large bay window and two large closets; a nursery/office/changing room with a skylight; and a second, queen-sized bedroom. There is a full bathroom on this level with hand-laid subway tiles, Kohler fixtures, and a window.

The basement was fully renovated and can easily function as a home office, studio, rec room, or guest suite. It features a full bathroom with standup shower and a laundry room, as well as access to both the front and back gardens.

Entertainment, food, and beverage options abound. Some area favorites include: Empire 103, DRINK PLG Wine & Spirits, Lincoln Tavern, Midwood Flats, Lincoln Tavern, Island to Island Brewery, PLG Coffee House and Tavern, The Inkwell, Izzy's Barbecue, Keg Lounge, Empanada City, The Westbury Inn, Bluebird, Rain eatery and juice bar, Parkside, and Zuri Lee.

Aside from these local hot spots, the main cultural attraction is the proximity of this home to Prospect Park - an easy 2 1/2 blocks away. Other institutions of note include the H.P. Lovecraft House, Medgar Evers College, the Museum of Women's Resistance, the RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre, and Kings County Medical Center/SUNY Downstate Hospital.

Also of note: this property has over 3,000 square feet of unused buildable square footage. Build your perfect dream home!

Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
