Property Description for 400 Riverside Drive, 4-C

Discover everything you always dreamed of from a pre-war gem in this spectacularly appointed apartment ideally situated along one of the most handsome stretches of Riverside Drive. Fowler Court was designed in 1908 by celebrated architect George F. Pelham and continues today to contribute to the area’s rich architectural fabric. Residence 4C, one of just fifty-eight homes, has undergone a thoughtful restoration that nods to the building’s history while anticipating the needs of its modern-day owner. Enjoy direct frontage on Riverside Park and the Hudson River through expansive bay windows; ornate original detail including fine millwork, a decorative mantel, ornate moldings, clever built-ins and wainscoting. Offering 9'6" ceiling heights, the space has been entirely re-clad in white oak herringbone and linear flooring with walls adorned in striking Farrow & Ball and Donald Kaufman paints. Each of the two full baths have been lavishly appointed in classic black and white porcelain tile, Toto toilets and old-world brass fixtures. The windowed chef’s kitchen offers generous, custom cabinet space, honed Carrara marble countertops and backsplash and grey limestone floors. A top-of-the-line appliance package includes a Viking range, Sub Zero refrigerator + wine fridge and Miele dishwasher. Adjacent to the kitchen, the formal dining room with its enchanting glass clad entry and wainscoted walls, offers ample space for formal dinner parties and is perfectly oriented with the surrounding living and entertainment areas. Additional items of note include custom window treatments in every room, wall coverings by Cowton & Tout, a stackable washer/dryer with prep sink and fully outfitted closets. Currently configured as a two-bedroom + home office, the space can easily retain its present setup while gaining a third bedroom from its over-scaled living space at the front of the apartment, or revert its home office into a bedroom (See Alternate Floor Plan). Fowler Court at 400 Riverside Drive offers its residents a video Intercom system, live-in superintendent, and communal laundry. With Riverside Park outside your front door and a plethora of fine restaurants, retailers, cultural activity and public transit all in immediate proximity, enjoy the very best of Morningside Heights and the Upper West Side. Pets are welcome.

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
