Set high on the 10th floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard, this lovely home has a welcoming, serene quality that melts away city stress the moment you enter. Arrive in a generous foyer flanked by closets, including a huge walk-in, and take in the loft-like great room that stretches a full 30 feet long to wide sunny windows. This generous footprint offers an inviting flow for entertaining and plenty of room for arranging spacious living and dining areas. The beautifully renovated kitchen has been opened up to the great room to ensure an uninterrupted flow of light and conversation. Cooking is a joy here thanks to custom cabinets and brand-new stainless steel GE appliances, including a gas range, French-door refrigerator, built-in microwave and dishwasher.

A smart pocket door separates the living area from the rest of the tranquil home for optimal privacy. The sprawling king-size master bedroom includes another enviable walk-in California closet equipped with a stacked GE washer-dryer, and the second room features built-ins and a custom closet of its own. In between, the large bathroom boasts lovely tile-work, a roomy tub/shower and a new vanity cabinet with hidden hair dryer and accessory outlet. No detail was overlooked in creating a gorgeous home that's both comfortable and convenient. Hardwood floors, crown moldings and baseboards run throughout. All three HVAC units are brand-new with 30-year lifespans. Custom blackout shades grace the living room and master bedroom, and recessed wall kits remove AV cables and wires from view. Please note: This is a large one bedroom with a spacious den / bonus room.

Sutton East is a fantastic, well-maintained cooperative building offering 24-hour doorman service, live-in superintendent, storage, bike room, central laundry and on-site parking (at an additional fee). Recent building updates include a fully renovated lobby, new landscaped and furnished rooftop, upgraded HVAC and brand-new elevator mechanics. Co-purchasing, pied-a-terre's, guarantors, cats, and dogs up to 35 lbs. are permitted.

Located in desirable Sutton Place, with immediate access to the Upper East Side and Midtown, New York's best shops, services and restaurants surround the neighborhood. Whole Foods Market is a block away, world-class luxury shopping lines 57th Street to the west, and Michelin-starred restaurants, like Aquavit and The Modern, are within blocks. Head to the glorious East River promenade for waterfront outdoor space and a large dog run. Access to transportation is excellent with 4/5/6, N/Q/R/W, E/M and F trains all nearby.

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
