Property Description for 85-10 34th Ave, 120

Feast your eyes on the latest offering from The Saybrook, a prewar co-op in gorgeous Jackson Heights:

It's been a labor of love for the sellers of this stunning 2 bedroom unit: They have embraced the classic architectural elements here and added loads of contemporary touches. The result is a masterful combination of the practical and the fanciful. Of course, this apartment greets you with its most traditional Jackson Heights perks: large entry foyer, lots of closets, extra-large bedroom, deco fireplace, and graceful arching doorways. But don't stop looking there! You will be seduced by the scarlet claw-foot bathtub in the otherwise neutral bathroom. You'll delight in the functionality of the brand new kitchen with quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, double windows, subway tile backsplash, and warm grey cabinetry. You won't believe how much floorspace you'll save when you store a lifetime's worth of STUFF in these 5 closets. And the 12 windows here will have nature's clock energizing you all year long. This apartment is why renters stop renting. It's why 30-year mortgages were invented. And it's why all that scrimping and saving is justified.

The Saybrook is a financially sturdy and efficiently functioning co-op with a proactive board and loads of excellent amenities that its 84 apartments share: central courtyard, elevators, laundry room, bicycle storage, kid's playroom, gym, private storage unit rentals, resident superintendent, security cameras viewable by all residents, and more. Pets are welcomed and subletting is allowed after 2 years. The building's windows have all been upgraded to new energy efficient double-paned models, which look great and aid in the conservation of heat. (Heat and water are paid by the co-op itself.) The building is an enjoyable stroll away from the 7 train at 82nd Street. 82nd street also happens to be a major retail drag, with 37th Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue lending loads of entertainment, dining, and shopping options.

Jackson Heights was the first garden city community built in the United States. In other words, apartment buildings were built around sumptuous interior gardens. Massive trees line the streets, and police still patrol on horseback here! You may never even use your kitchen as the neighborhood offers such a diverse choice of restaurants, you'll tour the globe without needing a passport. The effervescence of Jackson Heights is just beginning to get noticed by the "it" crowd, but it's been here all along. Without a doubt, you'll develop a love affair with this neighborhood!

Maintenance is $800.51 per month, including heat and water. 20% down payment is required.

Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
