Property Description for 486 De Kalb Ave, 2

Congratulations! ...are in order if you are lucky enough to land this massive Conv. 3BR (2 bed plus sleep loft) dripping in architectural details and neighborhood significance. This is truly the anti-cookie cutter apartment. The soaring 13' ceilings give the over-sized windows room to play, while the enormous great room and open kitchen are easily the backdrop to your popular get-togethers. The sleep loft can be used as designed or as a place to hang out; and the 2nd bedroom fits a Queen size bed plus additional furniture. The California King size Master bedroom continues the glory with 3 over-sized windows affording North West views, and blinding light.
NEIGHBORHOOD: Arguably, this part of Bed-Stuy bordering Clinton Hill is the intersection of all your needs: G train with increased service, B38 to Downtown Brooklyn in 10min; grocery shopping at Key Food, C-Town or Millennium (organic); dry cleaning at Merit Cleaners; wine from Bouchon; and fine food from Speedy Romeo (check out the The White Album pizza!); and finally addictive fare from the artisan doughnut shop, DOUGH!
THE DEAL: One flight up, this home is one of the best kept secrets in the neighborhood. Only those interested in plenty of space, light, and an amazing canvas for your design aesthetic need apply.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
