Property Description for 588 Madison Street, TRIPLEX

Located in historic Stuyvesant Heights, 588 Madison was originally built in 1889 by infamous architect William Godfrey and recently gut renovated and redesigned by a principle at KGBL, a renowned NYC furniture design and architecture firm. This 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom triplex home boasts three stories of living space with two private terraces and private backyard complete with a garden. Enter up the steps into the parlor floor of this immaculately restored turn-of-the-century French Neo-Grec brownstone with soaring ceilings, 20th century details, and custom designed white oak with walnut inlay flooring throughout. The formal sitting room will take you back in time with its’ gloriously restored moldings, handmade white oak pocket doors, dramatic windows and stunning original pier mirror. The Kitchen is equipped with Thermador appliances, custom walnut cabinets with satin lacquer fronts, and a solid walnut butcher block work surface that sits atop the kitchen island. Off the kitchen is a cozy sunroom with French doors that direct you onto the terrace with access to a private backyard. The second floor is designed as a traditional master suite-floor complete with en-suite master bath offering custom created linen cabinets, separate vanities, tub and enclosed shower. Off the master bath is a custom walnut walk-in closet which connects to a sitting room or additional bedroom. On the top floor of the brownstone are two additional large bedrooms each with enormous walk-in closets. Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
