Property Description for 455 East 51st Street, 2-C

Perfectly positioned on Beekman Place, a rare and unique enclave that transports its residents to a bygone era of elegant living and gracious style, this beautiful south-facing home overlooking the enchanting building garden is accessed via a walled entry where a gatekeeper/doorman stands guard welcoming its residents and visitors.

The elegantly detailed hallways lead to the front door of this apartment that welcomes you home: An entry gallery leads past the kitchen into the graciously proportioned main living room centered with a charmingly clad wood-burning fireplace. A second living room or formal dining room/study make for substantive space for living and entertaining. The current occupants use it as a library and media room. All the floors are gleaming hardwood oak laid in a herringbone pattern. Large south-facing windows overlooking the garden and the East River in the distance fill the apartment with light. The windowed kitchen with its crisp white cabinetry is well appointed with a Viking Range, Miele dishwasher and Liebherr refrigerator. The apartment has windows on three sides making for great cross-ventilation. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom, also with a window. The sound of bird song is common in this unusually quiet charming apartment.

455 East 51st Street is a six-story pre-war co-operative built in 1924 located at the end of a picturesque, tree-lined street and features a landscaped courtyard, a rooftop terrace with spectacular East River views and a gym. The building lies in close proximity to a dog park, a wide array of appealing restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and subway lines 6/E/M. The neighborhood also has its own neighborhood association and private security making this a safe and secure living experience. Don’t be surprised when you are greeted by your neighbors with a “Good Morning”!

Pets and pieds-a-terre are allowed. Flip tax is 2% of the gross purchase price, payable by the Purchaser. 50% Financing permitted.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
