Property Description for 880 West 181st Street, 3-D

HUDSON RIVER breezes move gently through this lovely 2 BR / convertible 3 BR home in The Falkland – an Arts and Crafts era gem, and one of the original Hudson Heights co-ops. An exposed brick wall in the bedroom, and a renovated kitchen and bathroom complement period details in this unit: 9 ft. ceilings and herringbone-patterned hardwood flooring. A generous dining area could become a third bedroom if that suits your needs. Plenty of closets, and a wall of well-crafted cabinetry in the dining area, keep you organized. Display your oils and etchings along the entrance hallway. This home is move-in ready. The low monthly maintenance fee of $952 includes your property taxes.

Set on high ground at Riverside Drive and 181st Street, with an exquisite lobby, The Falkland is a well-managed pre-war building within steps of all that has drawn you to this special enclave in Upper Manhattan. The Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge greet you as you venture forth from that fabulous lobby, a magical and ever-changing vista in any season. Riverside Park, the tennis courts and bike path along the river, The Little Red Lighthouse, restaurants, shops and services on 181st Street and nearby 187th Street, offer assorted diversions in this small town setting within the Big Apple. Stroll north to Fort Tryon Park and visit The Cloisters, the Heather Garden, and The New Leaf Cafe. Convenient to Columbia University Medical Center and public transportation (A-train, M98 express and M4 busses), the unique Manhattan neighborhood of Hudson Heights is a welcome home to a diverse population from the arts, academia, medicine, business and entrepreneurship. Please call for a private showing.

Washington Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Washington Heights, a hilly neighborhood on Manhattan’s northern tip known for its affordable apartments, preserved pre-war buildings, and Dominican food. Some would argue that it's a hidden gem and one of Manhattan's last neighborhoods that has retained its culture. The large swath of land is bordered by Inwood to the north along Dyckman Street, by Harlem to the South along 155th Street, by the Harlem River to the east, and the Hudson River to the West. It is the highest natural point on the Island of Manhattan.

Despite its high residential density, Washington Heights and Inwood have not seen modern housing construction in more than a decade other than relatively small housing units. Midtown Manhattan, Battery Park, TriBeCa, Chelsea, and Hell’s Kitchen, on the other hand, have seen an increase in building. Most of the high rise construction belongs to hospitals such as New York Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center, and educational institutions like Yeshiva University and Boricua College.

Washington Heights has access to amazing green spaces like The Cloisters, Fort Washington Park, Highbridge Park and Fort Tryon Park. There is no shortage of historical landmarks either. Remember General George Washington set up his camp in Washington Heights during the Revolutionary War. He used the elevated neighborhood to his tactical advantage to spot the Redcoats. As history would have it, his plan didn’t work out so well and the British occupied New York for seven years.
