Property Description for 870 West 181st Street, 55/57

Cramped subway cars and buses, teeny work cubicles, miniature parking spaces, small supermarket aisles, crowded city sidewalks... this is a town where S P A C E is a commodity. Breathing room? Personal space? Do such things really exist in NY City?!

They do in apartment 55/57 at 870 West 181st Street.

The feelings of spaciousness and "bigness" are what you'll experience as you enter this stunning home. Even your thoughts will have room to expand. Think massive, old world, Soho-style loft: high ceilings, gorgeous exposed brick, wood floors, open kitchen, French doors and rooms that seem to go on for miles. This is the S P A C E you’ve dreamed of while living in the Big Apple. Take a deep breath, relax and feel the zen.

The living area is at the heart of this home, and it immediately exudes a warm, inviting vibe. Windows line one wall, allowing in rich, beautiful light. The brick walls offer charm and character. There is plenty of room for entertaining and dining, and the open, windowed kitchen lies beyond. We could not imagine a more welcoming layout for your housewarming party and holiday shindigs. And with so much incredible wall space, let your creativity flow, curating all the art you love. The bigger the better; size DOES matter.

In addition to the oversized public areas of the apartment, there are three large bedrooms and two full bathrooms, making it truly feel like a home. Two of the bedrooms even offer views of the Hudson River and George Washington Bridge. Each bedroom accommodates king-sized furniture, and with this much room, why should you have to compromise? Go crazy. That California King you’ve had your eye on? It’ll fit! And so will the dressers and desks.

As if all of this wasn't enough, the home's secret treasure sure to seal the deal is what we NYers only dream about: a full, dedicated laundry room! Not a laundry closet, not an under-counter washer/dryer combo, and not a stackable. We know... unheard of! If you're a Laundry Queen, we've found your palace.

Some might think the kitchen and bathrooms need updating. If so, and if you're a DIYer, you could do the work yourself because simple cosmetics are all that might be necessary and your efforts will most certainly be rewarded. Note: this is not a "gut job" by any means.

This friendly coop building has a wonderful resident superintendent, bike room and private storage. Pied a terres, guarantors and pets are all permitted. Subletting is permitted after 3 years of occupancy and subject to Board approval.

Hudson Heights is one the last of Manhattan's hidden gems. It offers everything you could want, including an easy commute to Midtown, relaxed lifestyle, convenience shopping, wonderful dining options, parks and playgrounds. It's all here.

If The City has you dreaming of open spaces and room to breathe, take a quick trip on the uptown A train and see this incredibly gorgeous home. Your dreams can come true.

Washington Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Washington Heights, a hilly neighborhood on Manhattan’s northern tip known for its affordable apartments, preserved pre-war buildings, and Dominican food. Some would argue that it's a hidden gem and one of Manhattan's last neighborhoods that has retained its culture. The large swath of land is bordered by Inwood to the north along Dyckman Street, by Harlem to the South along 155th Street, by the Harlem River to the east, and the Hudson River to the West. It is the highest natural point on the Island of Manhattan.

Despite its high residential density, Washington Heights and Inwood have not seen modern housing construction in more than a decade other than relatively small housing units. Midtown Manhattan, Battery Park, TriBeCa, Chelsea, and Hell’s Kitchen, on the other hand, have seen an increase in building. Most of the high rise construction belongs to hospitals such as New York Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center, and educational institutions like Yeshiva University and Boricua College.

Washington Heights has access to amazing green spaces like The Cloisters, Fort Washington Park, Highbridge Park and Fort Tryon Park. There is no shortage of historical landmarks either. Remember General George Washington set up his camp in Washington Heights during the Revolutionary War. He used the elevated neighborhood to his tactical advantage to spot the Redcoats. As history would have it, his plan didn’t work out so well and the British occupied New York for seven years.
