Property Description for 333 East 55th Street, 5-A

The current homestead seems a bit more rambling these days and even though the memories are cherished and held close, it’s time to move on and scale back…. But not TOO much!

You still desire a comfortable living room, a formal dining space, and a kitchen to die for. In-home laundry, office or study space and an entertainment room for casual gatherings would all be bonuses… but can you have it all in Manhattan? Oh yes you can!

Sutton 55, Residence 5A promises to be all that and more. This 1700 sqft apartment is a home that feels intimate and spacious at once. Here, you will look back at the years of memories, knowing that new ones will be made and are ready to be created.

There will be parties for every occasion, and no occasion. Big bashes, intimate gatherings, or quiet conversations… they all will begin in this fabulous kitchen with marble floors and countertops, Sub-zero fridge, Viking gas range, Bosch DW and yes, a helpful warming drawer. Whether it is your latest attempt at Coq au vin for 8 or heating up leftovers from that new Upper East Side bistro you discovered. This kitchen is the heart of a spacious, but not TOO big, renovated, MINT condition apartment home with 2 bedrooms, a 3rd bedroom / office and 2.5 sumptuous bathrooms.

Marathon movie nights, game day victories, or catching up with neighbors from the old “hood” in the entertainment room, with a custom media center, built-in Bose speakers, and a separate wet bar and pantry, will become legendary. Do you remember that night when…? For those more sedate activities, the all-important office work station, with voluminous file drawers and bookcases, stands ready for paying those monthly bills, answering emails from family and friends, or assisting with the next school reunion.

The bright and spacious living room and dining room are the perfect backdrops for celebrations, whether toasting the New Year or honoring milestone birthdays, these new memories created will last a lifetime. And just like the old place, friends and family know this is the place to be for comfort and relaxing.

And you will jump for joy for this huge master bedroom suite with a 126 sqft California Closet, spa-like bathroom and a separate laundry room. Really! A separate laundry room… this is Manhattan real estate heaven.

Apartment 5A also offers a flexible floor plan for creating a fourth bedroom, but it really is tough to improve on this piece of Manhattan perfection. Marble-tiled foyer, 4” crown and baseboard molding throughout, oak hardwood floors, this home has been renovated and maintained with meticulous attention.

Sutton 55 is a full-service building with a full-time door staff, on-site resident manager, fitness room, garage, bike storage, private enclosed courtyard patio, and a spacious roof terrace with impressive skyline views. The building has recently undergone a dramatic facelift, as well. No flip tax and cats only permitted… Pinch me. It’s a dream come true.

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
