Property Description for 35 West 12th Street, THOUSE

This is an awe inspiring 19th century townhouse on an iconic Greenwich Village tree-lined street, just off Fifth Avenue. This delightful architectural masterpiece was designed by renowned Richard McGeehan of Jaklitsch/Gardner Architects and was inspired by a fashion icon and featured in Architectural Digest. Entering the house through beautifully restored 19th century doors, you’ll be welcomed by an entry foyer and a home office with a south facing window. The main level has an extended living area with a sizable family room and 11’ ceilings. Downstairs, there is a state of the art kitchen with low profile Sub-Zero fridge, 8" wide maple wood plank flooring, Miele dishwasher, antique mirror back splash, a custom rustic copper hood and a copper sink. Perfectly configured for entertaining, the kitchen level is adjacent to a spectacular landscaped garden and an additional dining area/family room. There are four spacious bedrooms in the top 2 levels, plus 2 full baths and one half bath on the main level. Marble mantles, mahogany wood staircase and unique custom moldings are only some of the house’s original details. The house has been brilliantly configured and seamlessly wired for any electrical entertainment system in every room, with a central control hub, including a cell phone signal booster for optimal reception, custom light switches and dimmers, a Siedle intercom system and central heating and air conditioning. Truly a one of a kind home; conveniently located steps from Union Square and the West Village.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
