Property Description for 1 Main Street, 9-B

A rare opportunity to rent an incredible 2,592-square-foot home in Dumbo's most sought-after pre-war building, The Clock Tower Condominium at 1 Main Street. Residence 9B has stunning, unobstructed views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, and New York City skyline from the living/dining room and both bedrooms. Originally set-up as a three-bedroom + home office, this home is currently configured as a two-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom plus home office with an expansive living room. All 16 oversized sound proofed windows frame these remarkable views and provide tremendous natural light. Features include hardwood floors, 11.5-foot beamed ceilings, generously scaled rooms, and ample closet space. The open kitchen includes stone countertops, custom wooden cabinetry, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, Thermador stove, and a large island that is perfect for entertaining. Adjacent to the entry foyer is a massive home office that could easily be utilized as a den or guest room. The gracious living room has plenty of room for a large dining table, an alcove perfect for an additional bedroom or formal sitting area, and lots of room for seating by the windows which showcase the spectacular views. Both bedrooms feature en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closets. The master bedroom has a beautiful marble sink top and separate soaking tub and stall shower. There is also a laundry room with a washer/dryer and extra room for storage. Converted in 1998, One Main Street is a full-service, pre-war condominium of roughly 124 residences with a full-time doorman/concierge, live-in super, maintenance staff, landscaped/furnished roof terrace, and a 24-hour gym. Located in the heart of Dumbo and the new 85-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park, 1 Main is close to stylish shopping and dining, the Galapagos Art Space, St. Ann's Warehouse, the Dumbo Arts Festival, the new Dumbo House, and the refurbished Jane's Carousel. Public transportation is also convenient with the A/C/F trains and the New York East River Ferry around the corner. Please contact us to schedule a private appointment to see 9B, a wonderful opportunity to live in one of the few high floor lofts in this well-established waterfront condominium.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
