Property Description for 5 Tudor City Place, 420

Set in a prestigious pre-war co-op, this one-bedroom apartment retains its marvelous charm and elegance while also providing wonderful views of the historic neighborhood, the most serene stretch of Midtown East.

The entry foyer leads into a spacious living room featuring two oversized windows. High beamed ceilings and beautiful stained hardwood floors run throughout. The kitchen contains copious custom cabinetry and built-in wall shelving for an abundance of storage space. There’s an eye-pleasing long marble countertop, customized divider, and a Gaggenau two-burner cooktop oven/stove combo. The bedroom has sunny southern and western exposures, along with a walk-in closet, window A/C unit, and a white-tiled en-suite bathroom with a pedestal sink.

One of the most desirable towers in Midtown East’s stately Tudor City complex, this 24-hour doorman building is equipped with on-site laundry and a 2,000-square-foot, newly-updated gym with river views. The prime location overlooks United Nations Plaza, with multiple leafy green parks just blocks from the apartment. Midtown’s office buildings are within walking distance, and nearby Grand Central Station provides rapid transportation anywhere in New York. The maintenance fee includes utilities, and shareholders may sublet indefinitely after two years of residency.

Tudor City | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Compared to other New York City neighborhoods Tudor City is a bit different. For starters, it's not very big. And technically it's not a neighborhood, it's more along the lines of a residential enclave of Tudor style buildings and parks. Even with the large neon sign boldly exclaiming the enclave's name, Tudor CIty is still a little tricky to find.

Located on the southern edge of Turtle Bay, Tudor City borders Murray Hill and lies on a low cliff which is just east of Second Avenue between 40th and 43rd Street. It overlooks the grounds of the United Nations along First Avenue and the East River beyond.

Tudor City is considered one of the world’s first skyscraper apartment complexes. This was considered a remarkable feat in 1929. Early marketing material, aimed at the middle class, described the development as well-planned, well-built, and well-priced housing. Developer Fred F. Finch designed Tudor City to keep middle class residents in Manhattan as many were fleeing the city for the suburbs.
