Property Description for 16 Desbrosses Street, 3-N

This spectacular loft was thoughtfully designed by architect Philip Wu. Expertly blending the grand industrial scale of Tribeca’s best loft architecture with a warm material palette, this luxurious home has an ideal layout for both entertaining and day-to-day life. With extensive built-ins, high ceilings, cast-iron columns, and top-of-the-line finishes throughout, the loft is currently configured as a two bedroom with a home office; a third bedroom can be easily added.

A charming entry foyer provides a warm welcome, with two coat closets, a built-in bench, and wood paneling, leading visitors to an expansive great room. This 40-foot long space is bathed in natural light all day, with a wall of large picture windows overlooking an open corner of Watts Street. The living room features 11-foot beamed ceilings, recessed lighting, a gas fireplace, and is wired for sound. Built-ins under the windows provide additional storage. The dining room and kitchen feature walls of the same white oak paneling as the entry foyer, as well as beautiful Japanese acoustical tile ceilings, which increase sound quality, while reducing noise and further ensuring that the apartment is a quiet oasis.

The open chef’s kitchen off of the great room provides an easy flow for entertaining. The kitchen features white Corian countertops, an abundance of storage, and top-of-the-line appliances including a Fisher & Paykel stove, Thermador oven, and a Miele dishwasher. A large butler’s pantry off of the kitchen provides extensive additional prep and storage space and is home to the Jenn-Air fridge. A built-in breakfast table extends from the island.

The large master suite is a haven of calm, featuring a wood-paneled bed wall, extensive storage within five custom-fitted closets, and an ensuite master bath. The bath’s sleek, spa-like design features a soaking tub, separate glass-enclosed shower, and radiant heated floors.

On the opposite side of the apartment is an additional bedroom with generous scale and ample closet space. A windowed, generously sized second bath also features radiant heated floors. A home office off of the great room, with a built-in desk and storage, doubles as a guest bedroom and could easily be expanded to be a third interior bedroom. The large laundry room perfectly located off of the entry hall includes a vented washer and dryer. This loft features Citi-Quiet windows in both bedrooms, original maple floors throughout, and 2-zones of central A/C.

Built in 1940, 16 Desbrosses Street is a boutique condominium on a charming cobblestone street in the Tribeca North Historic District. Originally a textile factory, this 6-story elevator building with 8 units features a beautifully planted rooftop terrace, virtual doorman system, and superintendent. An enormous storage room in the basement conveys with the unit. The loft is centrally located on the border of TriBeCa and Soho, convenient to transportation, Hudson River Park, and the extensive dining and shopping amenities of these neighborhoods as well as the West Village.

Tribeca | Manhattan

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
