Property Description for 42 Main Street, 8-D

INVESTORS ONLY! TENANT WILL BE IN PLACE UNTIL JUNE 2021. In the heart of DUMBO this 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath duplex residence offers the ultimate luxury: space.

You can feel it from the moment you enter. Ceilings soar above you. Southern light streams through the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows to greet you. The sky pulls you to join it on the massive terrace. The show-stopping windowed, open staircase seduces you to explore the private residence upstairs. Your shoulders drop and your lungs expand as you breathe into the space around you and within.

You could swear that you just walked down the hall from an elevator, yet you feel like you're standing in a true house with a backyard.

On the main floor, each room flows seamlessly into the next. The distinct spaces collaborate to create a grand, open entertaining space that retains a sense of intimacy. Light pours in from 3 exposures; it calls you to dance and play. You accept, twirling with joy as you bask in the glow of light and space and freedom to move without bumping into people or walls.

In the massive living room, built-in floor-to-ceiling bookshelves seem to extend the ceilings even higher than 10 feet. A powder room discreetly tucked into the corner and a large closet keep the party downstairs.

With a porcelain farmhouse sink perfectly positioned under a picture window, and a mix of concrete, steel and wood, the chef's kitchen conveys a sense of ease and fun. You perch on a stool with a glass of wine as you gaze beyond the wall of windows to downtown Brooklyn. The vibe is casual and industrial chic, yet the top-of-the-line appliances will suit even the most serious chef.

Just beyond the central dining area and the glass wall of the kitchen, the massive terrace extends the entertaining space. At over 400 sf, it offers its own distinct areas for cooking, dining and lounging. With the double glass doors open on a warm fall evening, it's an extension of your public space.

Upstairs, your private quarters offer a place for quiet repose: 2 bedrooms, each with a full en-suite bath. The master suite lives up to its name, offering double exposure, two large closets and space for both a king-sized bed and a seating area. In the windowed marble bathroom, a deep jacuzzi lures you to immerse in relaxation. The second bedroom harbors the rarest of New York spaces: a windowed, walk-in closet.

Like the best houses, this home comes with secrets: a full-depth storage area under the stairs that adds to the abundant closet space. A washer/dryer is conveniently located upstairs.

The Bridgefront Condominium is an intimate building with a part-time doorman, a gym, and storage. Just outside, cobblestone streets are lined with options for shopping, fitness, and dining. The vibe here is cool and comfortable; functional and fun; chic and carefree; playful and unpretentious.

It fits perfectly with the energy of DUMBO, where wide open spaces define the landscape and the waterfront location confers a relaxed, beach-town vibe. Whereas Manhattan buzzes with the energy of people constantly striving to get to their next destination, DUMBO pulses with the steady rhythm of people who have already arrived.

Your new home sits in the heart of this energy. As you step inside, you will feel that you have arrived. This is your space: to work, to play and to live freely. This is the space you've desired; the space to become who you already are.

And that, truly, is the ultimate luxury.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
