Property Description for 165 West 20th Street, 4-H

Available Furnished or Unfurnished (or somewhere in-between) for 1 year (+).

Beautifully renovated corner apartment situated in the heart of happening Chelsea. This perfect home features wonderful Southern and Western Exposure (through 7 large windows that wrap around the corner of a tree-lined street in central Chelsea), a graceful entry landing with plenty of room to exhale, a gorgeously renovated open loft-styled Scavolini eat-in-kitchen (with window and D/W), an oversized sunken living room with high ceilings and bright Western light, an elegant and classically renovated windowed bathroom with traditional white subway tile and tasteful high-end finishes (plus a full 2nd full bathroom en-suite with the master bedroom), and two separated spacious bedrooms. In addition, this home has ample storage throughout, attractive classic arches, is very quiet and comfortable...and if so desired can be available furnished and completely ready for your arrival. Centrally located and immaculately maintained home that's perfect for exploring the city or sitting quietly 4 stories above it all and simply people-watching in one of NYC's best neighborhoods - this is a peaceful and comfortable refuge in the center of downtown that you will love spending time in.

165 West 20th is located in the heart of Chelsea and is a lovely and intimate elevator building with only a small handful of apartments on each floor. The building was built and designed in 1938 by the renowned architect Horace Ginsbern, and perfectly exemplifies the art deco style so popular in prewar buildings throughout New York. Steps away from all the amazing energy and culture in the immediate as well as surrounding areas (Chelsea cafes, restaurants and galleries, Flat-iron and Gramercy, Union Square Park, the High-Line Park, east & west train lines, etc.), this is the perfect apartment to explore downtown NYC from and an amazing place to come home to at the end of the day. No smokers please. Please call or email for more details...

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
