Property Description for 30 Main Street, PH-D

LEASES SIGNED This spacious and well laid out 1500 square foot (approx.) loft is in Dumbo's premiere pre-war condo, The Sweeney Building. The buildings industrial origins are reflected in the soaring ceiling heights (over 11 feet high), oversized loft windows, and concrete construction which ensures quiet living. The details of the conversion are exquisite and out of the ordinary, from the solid oversize birch doors to the elegant basket weave tile laid in the master bath.

The great room of this loft easily accommodates a full dining area and large living room. The open chef's kitchen, lit by industrial loft pendants, is state of the art: Sub-Zero fridge, Bosch dishwasher, Thermador oven, Viking range and an in sink disposal. Off the living and dining area are an elegant half bath and a laundry room with washer/dryer. The master bedroom offers two side by side closets plus a walk in closet, and a sumptuous marble master bath with jetted tub, separate shower and double vanity. The oversized home office can double as a second bedroom, and has its own private entrance to the half bath.

The Sweeney, built as a factory in 1916, is now a classic residential loft building offering full amenities: 24 hour doormen, building staff, bike room, newly renovated and expanded gym, storage in the basement, and an incredible roof deck with sweeping views and Wi-Fi. You are in the heart of Dumbo, literally steps from the famed Brooklyn Bridge waterfront park, with views of the Brooklyn bridge, downtown Manhattan, Statue of Liberty and New York harbor. Walk a block to the new Empire Stores, award winning playgrounds, Dana Discovery center, and Dumbo Boulders climbing walls. Stroll to the A, C and F trains and the water taxi. Charming Dumbo is celebrated for its architecture, Belgian block streets, its low key cafe lifestyle and its galleries. This beautiful loft is in the center of it all. Pet friendly!

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
