Property Description for 421A Halsey Street

What more can you ask for? Condo finishes and rental income in a fabulous location! This three-story, two-family Brick and Brownstone beauty located in Bed Stuy's sweet spot has been tastefully renovated and is ready for you to move right in. It was completely renovated in 2012 when mechanicals, including boiler, hot water heater and roof were updated. It's configured as a modern upper duplex with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms over a 2 bedroom Garden rental. The full finished basement recreation room is accessible for both apartments. This sunny south facing home features an open floor plan with a Chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including dishwasher and Kitchen Aid fridge, opening to a large living and dining area, and a newly landscaped garden, including brand new deck. The location is fantastic! As if your lovely garden is not sufficient, the popular community garden located just across the street, offers a farm share, and the Brooklyn public library is right around the corner. This lovely home is surrounded by some of Bed Stuy's most popular places: Saraghina, just doors away, offers delicious pizza, pasta and artisan cocktails, and fresh baked bread and pastries at their bakery, and, at opposite ends of the block, you can find great tacos and burritos at Oaxaca and Tepache or a fresh take on Southern cuisine at Peaches, a few blocks away. Other great options include L'Antagoniste French Bistro, Grand Champ's Haitian cafe, live jazz at Bar Lunatico, coffee and light fare at Georges & Andres or Chaitty Coffee Shop, and many other cafes and bars, like Manny's, Casablanca, Beso, and Therapy Wine Bar. The A and C trains are a pleasant walk down Lewis Avenue. That stop gets you to lower Manhattan in just 15 minutes. The B26 and numerous other buses get you to Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Williamsburg and other great Brooklyn neighborhoods easily.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
