Property Description for 147 West 15th Street, 3-FLR

Retreat from the city to this extraordinary 4,700 square foot full-floor loft offering grand-scaled rooms, brilliant light, and multi-textured finishes throughout. Currently home to both a dramatic light-filled photography studio and a large, romantic, pin-drop quiet residence, this majestic home can easily be reconfigured to suit your every need. Step off the key-locked elevator into a massive 54-foot wide studio space bathed in southern light where 12-foot beamed ceilings, industrial columns, frescoed brick walls, and sculptural steel doors all mingle to stunning effect, creating a serene environment in which to pursue your creative endeavors. Nearby, impressive antique pocket doors slide open to reveal a large open residence filled with lovely intimate spaces. Every angle of this home allows for a new visual experience, a new perspective; no matter where your eye lands, you will be welcomed by an unexpected texture and a romantic detail. Poured concrete floors delineate the open kitchen/dining area, which features reforested walnut cabinetry, Pietra Verde countertops, and top-of-the-line appliances including a Bosch dishwasher, and a 6-burner Viking stove with grill vented to the outside. A comfortable light-flooded living area is warmed by a brick fireplace, while a private sitting area provides the perfect place to curl up with the Sunday Times. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto a lush, landscaped terrace, which delivers a serene multi-sensory experience and enjoys charming views of the neighboring ivy-covered buildings and brownstone gardens. Back inside, frosted glass doors open off the living room to reveal the sensual Master Suite, a tranquil room with silk papered walls, ebonized wide-planked flooring and a gigantic walk-in-closet. The Master bathroom is a sanctuary onto itself, and boasts floor-to-ceiling limestone, a deep soaking tub and a custom vanity with double sinks. At the opposite side of the loft you'll find the oversized Guest Bedroom - an ethereal space with white painted brick walls and peaceful tree-top views from enormous double glazed windows. The Guest bathroom is equally soothing and offers hand-cut glass tiles and an oversized soaking tub with Waterworks fittings. Additional rooms include a cozy den, and a large separate office accessed through impressive hand-carved French doors. The entire loft is centrally air-conditioned, has a washer-dryer, and offers abundant storage and custom Lutron lighting on dimmers throughout. All this, on a quiet tree-line block situated right at the crossroads of Chelsea and Greenwich Village - quite simply the most ideal location in all of Lower Manhattan. Rare and wonderful!.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
