Property Description for 455 East 51st Street, 6-C

Four and one-half gracious and well proportioned rooms (originally 5) perfectly situated on the Top Floor of this refined, Venetian inspired building -- one of Beekman's most desirable -- located at the end of a leafy & verdant garden cul-de-sac proximate to the East River. Suffused with all-day southern sun and exuding the utmost tranquility, with stunning panoramic views over a lovely private garden courtyard and the most perfect vista of the curve in the East River (imagine Venice's Grand Canal!). Exceptionally well renovated, this stylish apartment features an elegant and practical floor plan, enormous double living room, high ceilings, wood burning fireplace, abundant closets - all major rooms having open, south river views. The second bedroom has been opened to function as a convertible bedroom/study/library, and the original half bath has been added to a full bath for a steam shower but could be converted back. A short flight of back stairs provides easy access to a wonderful private roof terrace with fabulous river views! Pets permitted (with interview!). Washer/dryer allowed. Pied-a-terre allowed. Building amenities include health club, private roof terrace, private storage. 2% flip tax by buyer.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
