Property Description for 58 West 129th Street, PH

This 1700 square foot home redefines indoor/outdoor Penthouse living in Harlem. Originally designed as a three bedroom, the owner has thoughtfully reconceived the home into a sprawling, loft like 2 bedroom/2 bath with three terraces! Enjoy it as is or simply put the wall back to recreate the 3rd bedroom. Enter the apartment through your own private keyed elevator into a foyer that opens up into a magnificent living and dining space. The dimensions and scale of this Great Room is one of the best entertaining spaces in Harlem! The building was built in 2014, however the owner meticulously customized the apartment. This includes a working fireplace, upgraded storage and closets as well as an automated water system for the sky garden on the Eastern Terrace (One of Three outdoor spaces). The Master bedroom enjoys 2 luxurious customized closets, including a large walk-in that is large enough for your extensive wardrobe. Enjoy open northern, western and eastern views from your large en-suite terrace, private and peaceful. Finally a stunning,5 fixture marble bath, enjoys natural light pouring through the skylight above. The second bedroom has been upgraded with a vintage reclaimed sliding barn door adding to the apartment's personality and charm . The dimensions of this bedroom easily accommodates a King size bed. Access to a 3rd terrace sits off this bright and cheery room. A windowed, and state of the art, skylit kitchen offers enough space for the most aspiring chef while the pantry and oversized breakfast bar will certainly appeal. A vented washer dryer, wide plank oak floors and high ceilings make this PH a real stunner. Enjoy THREE exposures; to the south, east and north and marvel at the sparkling lights of Midtown while you BBQ. Uptown 58 is a boutique, 19 unit condominium built in 2014. The building has a gym, virtual doorman and a large garden for all residents to enjoy. The neighborhood offers a charming yet sophisticated atmosphere where coffee shops and cutting edge restaurants sit moments away. Finally, a Whole Foods is set to open in 2017. The 2/3/A/B/C/D trains are a few blocks away making this home accessible to anywhere in the city.

Harlem | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The neighborhood called West Harlem by the locals is known as Manhattanville to neighborhood newcomers. The area is culturally diverse and might be considered a microcosm of the city as a whole.

Columbia University has recently expanded into the area, which is attracting student residents from all over the world. Together with students from the City College of New York and young professionals fleeing higher prices in other neighborhoods, this influx of younger residents has brought with it more restaurants and bars on W 125th Street to serve this clientele. There are also new ventures, like a rock-climbing gym, to cater to the interests of these students and young professionals. At the same time, there are many small, family-owned shops and restaurants that have been anchors of the neighborhood for multiple generations.

The area has been through a housing upgrade, as older properties have been renovated and abandoned properties have been razed to make room for new development. There are still reasonably priced apartments available. Young professionals are finding that there is a certain cachet to living in West Harlem. It provides a convenient commute to the city and all of its amenities, while providing a sense of escape at the end of a long work day.

While rentals are popular with the student population, the young professionals are delighted to find pre-war brownstones, pre-war co-ops (including some income-capped HDFCs for lower- and middle-income buyers), and post-war condos that they can afford, although prices are rising. Some new low-rise developments, sporting virtual doormen and desired amenities, are cropping up.
