Property Description for 400 East 52nd Street, 5-J

Beautifully decorated and in excellent condition, this large one bedroom pre-war jewel, is located in the Beekman area of Midtown New York. Housed in one of the well known Southgate buildings, designed by Emory Roth, and built by Bing and Bing, in the early 1930's, this full-service, doorman building is rich in heritage.

Typically pre-war, you enter into a large foyer with two huge closets. One walk-in closet, plus another with two double hanging bars, gives plenty of room for storage.

The living room is of gracious proportions, boasting large windows facing south to lush gardens and a beautiful townhouse. High ceilings with 7" moldings, original polished steel door frames, add an authentic art deco touch. The wood floors are in superb condition and each window has granite window sills.

Off the kitchen is the dining area which can easily seat 4 - 6 people.

The kitchen has been re-done with country cabinets, granite counter-tops, glass backsplash, stainless steel appliances, tiled floor, with a large window facing south.

Enter the bedroom area through lovely white country window-paned doors. The bedroom has double exposures facing south and east to garden views and a peek of the East River.

Bathroom has been beautifully done in white keeping some original details in place. There is an East facing window which adds good light. Apartment has three large walk-in closets and one large closet with shelves and double hanging bars.

Central laundry, bike and storage rooms, common landscaped garden, pets, pied-a-terre's, and guarantors are all welcome. Renting is allowed with board approval. Washer/dryers are allowed. Electricity is included in the maintenance.

Agent shows by appointment only. No Open Houses.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
