Property Description for 580 Prospect Ave

BEAUTIFUL. BARREL-FRONT. BRICK. This 20-foot-wide townhouse is, simply speaking, SPLENDID! A gloriously spacious single family, it boasts graciously proportioned rooms, fine finishes and a prime Windsor Terrace location. Standing two stories tall with a clean, well-lit English basement, the house offers space galore. Up the stoop and inside the entryway, it features a double parlor -- or living room and den -- with a triple-window bay, parquet floors and a wall of built-in bookcases. Off the hallway, for your convenience, is a walk-in coat closet/pantry and powder room. The garden-facing kitchen is ENORMOUS! A lavish amount of granite counter tops, Wolf stove, Bosch dishwasher, an extra-large center island with two-sided seating and a separate formal dining area could not make cooking and entertaining more pleasurable. The upstairs center den is illuminated by both an oversized operable Vellux skylight with shade and an original stained-glass skylight, making this a lovely sanctuary to sojourn with a book or drawing pad. Overlooking the front are two bedrooms, one smaller with a closet; the other larger, with an entire wall of storage. A hallway bathroom with skylight, tub and shower and a separate laundry room with vented LG appliances are perfectly located here. The master suite features an en suite spa bath with a double sink and walk-in shower AND a luxurious dressing area with one wall of closets and an opposing wall of built-in drawers and cupboards. Beyond the kitchen is a beautifully designed and landscaped south-facing garden. Enjoy grilling, dining and play and indulge your horticultural proclivities in its circle of raised planting beds. To finish off the stellar qualities of this home, there is an expansive renovated windowed basement with two large studios, another half bath and terrific storage. There are entrances to both front and rear areas from downstairs, as well. The house has Ethernet on all floors; a resurfaced stoop; a new boiler; chic lighting by Kartell, Jonathan Adler, Logico from Artemide and Gus; and customized closets and blinds. The house is located in District 15 and is four blocks to Prospect Park, five blocks to the F/G trains and proximal to the myriad shopping and dining establishments that have made Windsor Terrace the destination neighborhood it is.

Windsor Terrace | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

The tiny, comma-shaped neighborhood of Windsor Terrace is bookended between two of Brooklyn’s largest green spaces, Prospect Park and the massive Green-Wood cemetery. Aside from the presence of the Prospect Park Expressway, which dissects the neighborhood in two, this residential community offers a suburban sensibility with its tree-lined streets, low volume traffic and the low height character of its streetscape.

Many homes in the area are low to the ground, lending a suburban feel to the neighborhood, and the area has been down-zoned to maintain its low-rise appeal and character. There are plentiful brick row houses that have very low turnover. If you are lucky enough to buy or rent one, you tend to hold on to it. There are also small apartment buildings, private homes, condos and multi-family homes in a wide price range

There is commercial development along Prospect Park West, Fort Hamilton Parkway and Prospect Avenue, but even these new stores and restaurants are mostly family-owned and operated, maintaining the small-town charm. The pace of life is slower. The schools are good, which is a big draw for families with young children. The people are friendly, which gives a real sense of neighborhood and community to Windsor Terrace.
