Property Description for 489 16th Street

> Extraordinary. > That's the first word that comes to mind when you enter the stately front door of this remarkable brick townhouse on one of the nicest blocks in the South Slope. > One block from Prospect Park and just a few doors down from the entrance to the F-train, it has been thoughtfully renovated with every detail in place for comfort, convenience and livable elegance. > Step into the parlor level, with its spacious great room, overlooking the tree-lined street, accented with one of four original fireplace mantles - lovingly restored - a generous half-bath and laundry closet, and into the dining area with an open kitchen, home to top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, that allows for gracious entertaining with every ease. > Out the eight-foot garden doors that lead to the stained concrete deck - with its own gas hook-up for grilling - that look down to the seasonally landscaped garden. > Up the stairs, with built-in closets underneath for the ultimate organization, you walk under a beautiful stained-glass skylight (one of three!) to three beautifully appointed rooms and two full custom-designed baths, with European tumbled-stone tile. > More? Nine to thirteen foot ceilings throughout, five-inch Brazilian Tigerwood flooring, recessed lighting, and all-new mechanicals, including three-phase electrical service on all floors for energy efficiency, make this the affordable home of your dreams. > And with a garden-level, 1.5 bedroom rental, this is life at its very best.

Windsor Terrace | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

The tiny, comma-shaped neighborhood of Windsor Terrace is bookended between two of Brooklyn’s largest green spaces, Prospect Park and the massive Green-Wood cemetery. Aside from the presence of the Prospect Park Expressway, which dissects the neighborhood in two, this residential community offers a suburban sensibility with its tree-lined streets, low volume traffic and the low height character of its streetscape.

Many homes in the area are low to the ground, lending a suburban feel to the neighborhood, and the area has been down-zoned to maintain its low-rise appeal and character. There are plentiful brick row houses that have very low turnover. If you are lucky enough to buy or rent one, you tend to hold on to it. There are also small apartment buildings, private homes, condos and multi-family homes in a wide price range

There is commercial development along Prospect Park West, Fort Hamilton Parkway and Prospect Avenue, but even these new stores and restaurants are mostly family-owned and operated, maintaining the small-town charm. The pace of life is slower. The schools are good, which is a big draw for families with young children. The people are friendly, which gives a real sense of neighborhood and community to Windsor Terrace.
