Property Description for 283 Halsey Street, 1

Only a few blocks from the Kingston/Throop and Nostrand Avenue A/C subway stops, this huge 2.5 bedroom is a beautifully renovated triplex home in Bed-Stuy and offers all the relaxed privacy of brownstone living along with the convenience of a fast, direct commute and your own private garden and terrace. This brownstone has the perfect mix of modern fixtures and finishes set tastefully in the context of a prewar townhouse with gorgeous original details and central AC. The foyer leads directly into the open and expansive living/kitchen room area. The pristine chef's kitchen has a tiled backsplash and ample cabinets to hold all of your ingredients and tools. Marble countertops encircle stainless Miele appliances including a full-sized dishwasher. A marble breakfast bar has room for stools and opens into the combined living/dining space. This sizable outdoor space has built-in lighting, sculptural stone pavers, planted areas bordering the red wood privacy wall, a stone fire pit, and a wooden deck/seating area at the far end of the yard. It is partially shaded by trees and would make a lovely place for entertaining. On the second floor, the main and second bedrooms both boast exposed brick, dramatic dark wood details, oversized windows and beautiful chandelier-style lighting. Both bedrooms come with decorative brick fireplaces and roomy closets. The main bedroom includes beautiful woodwork and has doors that open onto a terrace overlooking the garden area. The second bedroom features built-in shelving, stained glass window detailing and a wood-bordered brick fireplace. The smaller third room on the main level could be used as an office or guest room and is not far from the half bath off the living area. The beautifully finished and generously sized lower level is perfect for a media room, den, playroom or whatever your needs are and includes another full bathroom and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Halsey Street is quiet and lined with wide sidewalks, large trees and beautifully-maintained historic residential buildings. Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
