Property Description for 38 East 1st Street, 3-B

Centrally located in the East Village, this light, airy duplex loft features authentic details throughout rarely seen in todays market. Spanning approximately 1,300 square feet - each room in this loft boasts grand proportions. The expansive, south facing great room is finished with old world materials inspired by those found in historic South American properties, including soaring 15 foot tin lined ceilings and reclaimed wood floors. This space functions well for both casual living and entertaining and offers a plethora of wall space ideally suited for displaying a collection of art. A chef's kitchen, enhanced by beamed ceilings, is appointed with top of the line appliances and stainless steel countertops. 2 large windowed bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a separate sun-filled dining room, enclosed by a glass atrium complete this one of a kind home. Originally a school house and built in 1920, 38 East 1st was later converted to 13 cooperative apartments. This elevator building has a laundry room and offers easy access to public transportation. 38 East 1st is ideally positioned next to neighborhood dining favorites Lucien, Prune and Russ and Daughters. No Pets Permitted.

East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
