Property Description for 92 Bergen Street

92 Bergen Street is one of the most thoughtfully renovated and impeccably designed single family homes currently available in Brooklyn. The vision of Light House Design, this 1870s Greek Revival townhouse has undergone a meticulous transformation which preserved the elegant and historic exterior, while crafting a home that is warm, modern, and eminently livable. With approximately 5300 square feet of living space, this home offers an extraordinary sense of light and openness as the result of having the entire rear wall removed and replaced with a full-width extension and south facing, entirely glass wall on the first three floors.

Upon entering, this home greets you with a grand 60' triple parlor dedicated to living and dining, with a magnificent chef's kitchen one step down in the rear. A sweeping handcrafted stair case ascends from the parlor to a 6' X 11' skylight on the roof which pours light through the home. The living and dining areas both have restored original mantles (one wood burning) and are separated by original plaster arch corbels. The chef's kitchen is a true showpiece with a huge island, custom millwork of white ash, 2" honed Calacatta gold counters, 48" Wolf Range, integrated Sub-Zero fridge, Miele dishwasher. There is a large deck off of the kitchen ideal for outdoor entertaining.

Beneath the parlor, the garden floor has been reimagined as a mezzanine level dramatically overlooking a sun-drenched family room with a soaring double height ceiling and an entire 14' wall of windows facing the yard. The mezzanine level contains a den with a balcony open to the family room below, and a nanny/guest suite at the front of the house with a private entrance under the stoop, The family room level also contains an elegantly appointed wet bar/ kitchenette. From this level, you walk directly out on to the landscaped, south facing yard.

Upper levels of the home are built 20' X 50' and offer four to five oversized bedrooms. The master suite occupies the entire third floor with a gorgeous beamed ceiling, private south facing patio with reclaimed brick parapets overlooking the yard, and a huge dressing/sitting room. The master bath is magnificently appointed with floor to ceiling honed marble and custom millwork. The top floor of this home has three large bedrooms and two baths including a guest room with en-suite bath.

All of the millwork throughout including doors, moldings, vanities, cabinetry, and beamed ceilings are custom designed and finished for this house. Throughout, the floors are meticulously installed wide plank white oak. There is a hi-efficiency York 5 zone heating/cooling system. A smart home system controls climate, video, audio, security cameras, and window shades.

Located on tree lined Bergen Street, directly off of renowned restaurant row Smith Street, your new home is on one of the most coveted blocks in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Boerum Hill. You are in the midst of world class shopping including both international brands and locally loved boutiques. Some of the finest dining in NYC, parks, schools, and transportation are at your fingertips. Boerum Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Boerum Hill is a tiny, quiet, primarily residential neighborhood in Brooklyn. There are broad tree-lined streets that are filled with elegant three and four-story brownstones and townhouses, mostly built between 1840 and 1870. There is a definite family vibe to the neighborhood, but young professionals are moving in, and with them are coming trendy bars to cater to their desire for some measure of nightlife, without having to linger in Manhattan. These new bars and restaurants are being sandwiched in amongst existing shops on both Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street, which are the main commercial areas in Boerum Hill.

Boerum Hill offers a convenient location that is still able to maintain its small-neighborhood feel. Shopkeepers value their customers and remember their regulars. It continues to do what it was designed to do, namely provide small-town living in the very shadow of the big city. Boerum Hill is an easy commute to other parts of the city, making it easy to come home every day to the peace and tranquility of Boerum Hill while commuting to a job anywhere in the city.

The neighborhood is quite walkable and you can take the time to catch up with your neighbors while visiting on their stoops. Shopping on Atlantic Avenue is stress-free with no high pressure. You can meet with friends at any of the many coffee shops and while away pleasant hours in conversation. The dining scene on Smith Street is similarly laid-back. Don’t expect that there will be quite as much to see or do as there is in Manhattan, but there are a decent number of interesting bars and restaurants providing a measure of nightlife. The trade-off is worth it, as Boerum Hill provides a quiet, peaceful place to live and raise a family.
