27A Harrison Street

27A Harrison Street is one of the most historic houses in New York City. Constructed originally in 1819, it was one of the first to be designated a New York City landmark by the then-new Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1966. It exists in a row of beautiful Federal houses whose restoration had been commissioned by the L.P.C. itself. Townhouses are rare to Tribeca, and these are the most famous and desirable of all.

27A is the jewel in the crown, and the largest of the group. It is 25 feet wide and has 3,700 square feet of living space. Dean/Wolf Architects designed the luminous interior, complete with seven fireplaces. The entire home is centrally air-conditioned.

The front stoop leads to a diaphanous parlor level, highlighting high ceilings over a living room with wood-burning fireplace, large open kitchen, dining area, and access to a beautiful south-facing garden.

A stunning and unique staircase rises to the second level, which features two large bedrooms and a bathroom.

The entire third level is a master suite measuring over 500 square feet. It includes a wood-burning fireplace and wonderful Federal-era gables. A skylight above filters light throughout the house.

The English basement, with interior and separate exterior access, has a large, private recreation room, a music room that convertible to other uses, two fireplaces, and mechanicals. This level also leads to the superb 506-square foot south garden.
