Property Description for 390 West End Ave, 5-E

PHOTOS COMING SOON. Corner three bedroom, four bath condo of 2,907 square feet with incredible sunlight. This residence has numerous original details--including terrazzo floors, lighting fixtures and hardware, two fire places, wood flooring, molding, paneling and detailing. The home features a grand entry hall, living room with a fire place, formal dining room with another fire place, a chef's kitchen, three bedrooms and an oversized laundry room and a large linen closet. Central air conditioning. The Apthorp was built between 1906 and 1908 for landowner William Waldorf Astor, and converted to condominiums in 2008. Designed by architects Clinton & Russell in the Renaissance Revival style, the building is one of a handful remaining in Manhattan that occupy an entire city block, and boast an interior landscaped courtyard and driveway. The Apthorp is both a city landmark, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This building boasts an extensive staff, including a series of part-time and full-time doormen in both the east and west gatehouses, as well as the four lobby entrances at the respective corners of the building--and a full-time, live-in Superintendent. The recently completed 6,500 square foot amenity suite includes a private spa and fitness center, a yoga /exercise room, a steam room and sauna, and an entertainment suite with a bar and kitchen. A children's playroom is soon to be completed. The Apthorp also offers additional storage rooms for purchase. On-site parking is located on 79th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue. A few short blocks from Central Park, Riverside Park and the Museum of Natural History, it is nestled amongst the many restaurants and boutiques of the Upper West Side, and nearby schools.

Upper West Side | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Bracketed on its east and west borders by massive city parks, the Upper West Side (UWS) is known for its greenery, stately and elegant townhomes, safe streets and great schools, all of which make it a very desirable neighborhood for families. The UWS has maintained its community feeling, making it attractive to young professionals and retirees, both of whom want a sense of belonging in the place they call home.

Here you’ll find many apartment buildings, especially those along Central Park West. Historic architecture abounds, anchored by four luxury co-ops - the San Remo, Majestic, Century and Eldorado apartments - all of which have two towers on their interiors. They were built in the 1930s and their design was predicated on a 1929 building code that imposed a height limit on residences facing the street. There are also impressive row houses near Riverside Drive throughout the W 70 and 80 Streets. Above the 90s, you will find smaller buildings where walk-ups are very reasonably priced.

There are several world-class museums and venues dedicated to the performing arts. Plentiful dining can be found in the UWS. You will find everything from quaint Jewish delis serving up bagels and a schmear to sophisticated fine dining that has earned multiple Michelin stars, and everything you could possibly want in between. There is also abundant shopping and a vibrant nightlife.
