Property Description for 79 Laight Street, 2-F

Dramatic ceiling heights and historic charm abound in this sophisticated, thoughtfully designed, approximately 3,394 square feet 3 bedroom 3.5 bathroom home in the heart of Tribeca. Step directly from the private key-locked elevator into the welcoming foyer, framed by clean lines and nearly 15-ft ceiling heights that guide your attention toward the palatial great room. The 33.4 x 18.3-ft double-height great room with exposed brick walls, wood burning fireplace, and beamed ceilings, is dramatically illuminated by corner exposures and two-stories of original arched windows.

Separate from the great room, the double-height gourmet kitchen, also with original arched windows and exposed brick walls, comes outfitted with an integrated Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, a Miele dishwasher, a Wolf 5 top electric range and dual oven, an extra-wide stainless steel trough style sink, and honed Danby marble countertops. Subtly golden-toned, self-closing wooden cabinets provide tremendous storage space and there is a large walk-in pantry, thoughtfully built-out to accommodate a range of kitchen necessities.

Off the opposite side of the great room, the double-height master suite is outfitted with an enormous walk-in closet and a fully built-out 9 x 10.5-ft dressing room. The windowed master bathroom with double sinks, custom-tiled floor and walls, separate tub and rain shower, and a separate water closet, is a luxurious spa-like retreat. The stand-alone deep soaking tub includes a separate hand-held sprayer, as does the glass enclosed shower area, which is large enough for a bench, and finished with pristine white tiles and generously sized built-in niches for storage.

Two additional bedrooms, each on different levels in the home for maximum privacy, and each with adjoining bathrooms plus ample closet space, a 10.4 x 17.7-ft. mezzanine-style home-office, a separate, vented, laundry alcove, and a stylish powder room near the entrance complete this stunning residence. Desirable features include custom-stained oak floors, recessed lighting, motorized window treatments, built-in speakers, a Control 4 home automation system, and abundant storage throughout.

79 Laight Street, also known as the Sugar Warehouse is an 11-story, 32-unit doorman condominium built in 1853 and converted to luxury condos in 2002. Amenities include a full-time doorman, live-in superintendent, roof deck, health club, children's playroom, bike room, and personal storage upon availability. Situated next to the Hudson River Park, humming with outdoor recreational activities on Piers 25 and 26, steps from Greenwich Street a.k.a. "Main Street Tribeca?, with its beautiful architecture and plethora of fine-dining options, and a five minute walk to SoHo for some of the best shopping in the city, enjoy this vibrant and convenient location with easy access to all forms of transportation.

Tribeca | Manhattan

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
