Property Description for 9201 Shore Road, D-406

Come home to this sprawling apartment in one of Bay Ridge's few doorman co-ops on one of its best blocks; 9201 Shore Road! The living room measures over 27 feet in length, allowing for plenty of space for separate living and dining areas; it's perfect for entertaining. The oversized master bedroom comfortably fits a king-size bed with plenty of additional furniture, and the second bedroom off the living room (which could also be used as a separate dining room, should you wish) is generous in proportion as well.

The kitchen has been completely renovated with new stainless steel appliances (GE fridge; Bosch dishwasher; Frigidaire stove and microwave), gorgeous quartz countertops, white subway tile backsplash, and custom cabinetry. The bathroom is also in good shape. Other goodies include hardwood floors, through-the-wall A/C's, six closets, and plenty of light from eastern and northern exposures.

9201 Shore Road is a full-service co-op, boasting a 24-hour doorman, elevators, live-in super, laundry room (no W/D's in apartments), bike room, and garage (currently full; a tenant lottery takes place whenever there's a vacancy). Sorry, no pets or pied-a-terres. Subletting is permitted for up to four years in totality (1-2 year lease to begin; can be renewed for another 1-2 years afterwards) after one year of residency, subject to board approval; a monthly fee of $1 / share (or $314 / month) applies.

Bay Ridge is a wonderful combination of city perks and suburban benefits; beautiful parks and quiet, residential blocks are accompanied by the bustling restaurant, bar and shopping scenes on third avenue. Hop on the express bus into the city (about 35-40 minutes to downtown Manhattan), or trot to the R train on 4th Avenue and 92nd Street. Don't miss your chance to make this wonderful apartment your very own!

Fort Hamilton | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Fort Hamilton has the unique distinction of being both a military base and a neighborhood in Brooklyn. Well, technically it’s a sub-neighborhood of Bay Ridge.

Named after founding father Alexander Hamilton, the neighborhood sits in the southwestern corner of Brooklyn and it’s about a square mile in size (give or take). Its boundaries are 86th Street to the north, Belt Parkway and Fort Hamilton military installation to the south, 7th Avenue to the east, and Shore Road to the west.

The area was originally inhabited by the Canarsie Indians and later settled by the Dutch in 1620. A few decades later, thanks to land grants from Governor Peter Stuyvesant, Cornelius Van Werckhoven from the Netherlands purchased what is now Bay Ridge and Fort Hamilton for a very small amount of money.

The area remained an isolated stretch of rural land until the electric trolley line was introduced to Brooklyn in 1892. The trolley connected various points of Brooklyn and Fort Hamilton soon flourished. .

Fort Hamilton and Bay Ridge experienced waves of immigration and just like other areas of New York City it became a true melting pot. Irish and Italians immigrants made their way to the neighborhood in the early part of the 20th century followed by Syrian and Lebanese immigrants in the 1950s. More recently, Asian and Arab-Americans call Fort Hamilton home.

Modern-day Fort Hamilton may not have the cool factor that other Brooklyn neighborhoods flaunt but there are many trade-offs. It offers tree-lined streets and friendly neighbors. Most residents will tell you it has a small-town feel with the added perk of affordable housing. Fort Hamilton’s proximity to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and access to Manhattan-bound trains make it a very commutable neighborhood.
