Property Description for 20 East 11th Street, 5-FLR

FIFTH AVENUE FABULOUS! This 5-room floor-through home is located on the 5th/top floor of a sunflooded, historic landmark ELEVATOR townhouse on 11th Street just east of Fifth Avenue. This is one of the most desirable blocks in Greenwich Village not only for its location but for its beautiful architecture. In fact, Eleanor Roosevelt lived in 20 East 11th Street from 1933-1942 which is memorialized on a historic plaque outside of the townhouse. The 5th floor has a truly charming and rarely available layout of two full Kohler baths, a large bedroom with a sitting alcove, multiple closets, and a full wall of windows. There is also a sizable separate room which would make a perfect guest room or a study. The huge living room is highlighted by a large square skylight and a decorative fireplace. The open eat-in kitchen is newly renovated and has steel-faced appliances including a dishwasher, a microwave, and a corner of south-facing windows. Best of all is the sun-drenched solarium located between the kitchen and the study which will make a gorgeous dining room or sitting room all year round! New AC units and sunshades included. Please note that this townhouse has an elevator and a washer/dryer in the basement but does not allow pets. Please call for a viewing soon as this apt will not last long!

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
