Property Description for 177 Ninth Ave, 5-H

This classic, pre-war inspired 2 bedroom 2.5 bath home wraps around the northeast corner of the General Theological Seminary campus. Called the Chelsea Enclave, this complex of homes built 2008 for modern living was inspired by the existing late 19th century architecture of the seminary chapel offering a one of a kind sanctuary in the heart of New York City and arguably located on one of the most beautiful blocks in Chelsea if not the entire City. Built on the eastern edge of the Seminary's Close, these 53 homes benefit from the expansive entire city block campus consisting of lawn and century old trees reminiscent of a village green yet in the heart of New York City. This gracious home boasts a dramatic center hall entrance gallery which leads into a classically scaled living room with 10.5' ceilings and 6 oversized single pane windows with views to the north and east offering great light and glimpses of iconic Manhattan structures in the distance. The spacious layout with exquisite design details blends modern living with the grace of traditional proportion and scale. The custom kitchen, designed by Alan Wazenberg, features black absolute granite countertops, white oak cabinetry, Bosch dishwasher, 30 inch Wolf oven and cook top with Miele stainless steel fully vented hood, Sub-Zero 27 inch refrigerator-freezer, Sub-Zero 46-bottle wine cooler with dual temperature control, and a built in microwave oven. This unit also has a Bosch washer and vented dryer perfectly concealed in a utility room. The gracious east facing en-suite master bedroom has floor to ceiling windows and a separate lounge area plus two oversized walk-in closets. Also designed by Alan Wanzenberg is the spacious 5 fixture master bath offering Botticino Fiorito slab stone floors with time and temperature controlled radiant heat, a thermostatic controlled glass enclosed shower, Kohler Tea-for-Two soaking tub, and Robern vanity cabinets. The layout also includes a split second bedroom of ample proportion with en-suite bath. The building's features include the close garden, roof deck, exercise room, private storage, children's room, valet, full-time doorman, garage, and package room with cold storage.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
