Property Description for 222 Hancock Street, 2

Welcome home to 222 Hancock, an impeccably restored landmark townhouse that will be converted into two high-end boutique condominiums, located on arguably Bed Stuy's single most desirable block. This 20ft wide Romanesque Revival building is of a rare architectural pedigree, built at a time when Hancock Street was one of the most coveted in all of Brooklyn.

Unit 2 is a nearly 2000 sqft. duplex with 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 baths, an expansive porcelain paved terrace and a stunning full floor roof deck overlooking Brooklyn and Manhattan. The main living level occupies a full floor offering approximately 1000 square feet for living, dining, cooking, and entertaining. There is an open chef's kitchen with high-end stainless steel appliances and large statuary marble island. On this level, there is a 20ft terrace; an oasis for gardening and grilling all year long. The living room has coffered ceilings and a beautiful antique mantle with working gas fireplace. In totality, this floor offers an almost unheard of 70ft living and entertaining space. All three bedrooms are large and are on the upper level. The Master bedroom consists of an en-suite bathroom with double vanities, four shower heads, heated flooring, steam shower and a huge walk-in closet with a skylight! An exquisitely designed wrought iron staircase leads up to the roof deck which opens into approximately 900 square feet of outdoor space. Rare arched stained glass windows are accented throughout the unit, flooding the apartment with natural sunlight from every angle. In total, there are 14 windows pouring in both northern and southern natural light. The unit has central AC, heat zoned by room, a washer/dryer, and video intercom. This Penthouse is a detail lover's dream; full of rich, original character carefully preserved.

Conveniently located very close to trendy shops/restaurants (Peaches Hot House, Eugene & Company, Saraghina, Black Swan) and A, C express train stop and the LIRR. This unit is a luxurious apartment, a one-of-a-kind home.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
