Property Description for 87 Leonard Street, 4

Constructed in 1870, 87 Leonard pays homage to its heritage with original architectural elements of an Italianate style while providing modern luxuries and conveniences on a quiet Tribeca block.

This expansive 4,652 square foot full floor home features four generously sized bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. The sweeping loft was conceived for seamless living and entertaining with a functional floor plan featuring an open chef's inspired kitchen, massive living room, additional home office with en suite full bath, den and separate laundry room with LG washer and vented dryer. Such grand proportions are emphasized by soaring ceilings up to 10'11" feet high supported by restored cast iron Corinthian columns and oversized hardwood double-sash windows that flood the space with air and superb light.

From the impressive wood and marble-slab island to its crackled subway tile backsplash, the chef's kitchen provides a magnificent example of how history can inform modern design. The thoughtfully curated mix of materials and appliances yields an artistic yet highly functional space featuring high end appliances such as a Sub-Zero Pro 48-inch stainless steel refrigerator with glass door, Wolf 48 inch six burner stove plus grill with custom designed vented hood, Sub-Zero wine refrigerator and Miele dishwasher.

Detailed to perfection, the spacious master suite with north exposure has three separate walk in closets and features a luxurious master bath equipped with floor to ceiling Calcutta Gold marble, vintage herringbone-patterned floors and bath vestibules, period-appropriate nickel-plated hardware, custom vanities, Waterworks 70-inch porcelain soaking tub and glass enclosed shower.

Designed by Grade Architecture and Interior Design, 87 Leonard embraces a history that spans three centuries with its iconic cast iron street level facade while incorporating the conveniences of 21st century technology with radiant-heated floors throughout, smart wiring and multi zoned climate control. With only seven units, this boutique building features a stunning lobby, part-time doorman, allows pets and includes storage.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
