Property Description for 455.5 Henry Street

This gorgeous, renovated 4-story, single family townhouse, located on one of Cobble Hills most charming streets, just may be the perfect Brooklyn home.

Spanning across three floors and a finished English basement, you'll have plenty of room to enjoy this home's sunny exposures, soaring ceilings and architectural flourishes. Arrive via a classic stoop flanked by original ironwork and take in a stunning parlor-level living room. Surrounded by a bay window, carved marble wood-burning fireplace and elegant staircase, this bright space recalls the grandeur of a bygone age reimagined for sophisticated contemporary living. Blonde hardwood floors usher you toward the exceptional eat-in kitchen where custom cabinetry frames professional-grade stainless steel appliances, including a Sub-Zero refrigerator, DCS range with grill and Bosch dishwasher. Further on, a convenient powder room and extra-large pantry line the path to the sun-filled dining room that seems to hover over this beautifully landscaped garden on the home's extra-long lot. This charming outdoor hideaway is filled with meandering walkways, seating areas, and mature flowering trees, herbs and vegetables to create a true oasis in the heart of the city.

Upstairs, a serene east-facing bedroom enjoys lovely light and garden views, along with great closet space and a decadent en suite bathroom with jetted bathtub. A large den on this level features gorgeous custom walnut built-ins, dramatic lighting, and another handsome fireplace. On the top floor, two more spacious bedrooms are joined by a second full renovated marble bathroom, as well as a laundry area with stacked washer and dryer. The garden level is like none you've seen. A full bathroom with tub serves as a perfect bathroom for guests. The rear bedroom, currently a sweet playroom, has a queen-sized murphy bed - perfect for a guest who wants to avoid the stairs. And in the center of this floor sits a wine collector's dream. A glass walled and illuminated, dramatic but tasteful wine cellar, displays your favorite bottles. Sit in the lounge area and sip away.

Multi-zone HVAC ensures year-round comfort, and this beautifully maintained historic home's recent renovations have included a new roof, hot water heater and upgraded plumbing and electrical.

Located mid-block on utterly charming Henry Street, in the heart of the Cobble Hill Historic District, 455 1/2 is a Neo-Grec brick and brownstone townhouse built in the late 1870s. Offering the epitome of desirable Brownstone Brooklyn living, local hot spots like Lucali and Brooklyn Farmacy line the nearby blocks, while the famed dining, shopping and nightlife of Court and Smith streets are within easy reach. Nearby F and G trains provide easy access to the rest of the city.

Cobble Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

The neighborhood now known as Cobble Hill was originally settled by Dutch farmers in the mid-1600s. Tucked along the East River, in the heart of Brooklyn, Cobble Hill is known for its welcoming, leafy streets, independent mom-and-pop shops, and 19th century brownstones.

Most of Cobble Hill lies within an historic landmark district, and building heights are restricted to 50 feet, which helps maintain its 19th century atmosphere. Building owners will often split the use of their four- or five-story buildings, occupying several of the top floors and renting out the ground floor as apartments or, conversely, occupying one or more of the lower floors and renting out the top floors. New construction and alterations to existing buildings in the historic district require approval by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, which helps maintain the historic character of the Cobble Hill neighborhood.

Although most housing in Cobble Hill consists of traditional brownstones and brick townhouses,, you will also find churches that have been converted to condos, carriage houses that have become luxury apartments and Victorian school houses that have been converted into lofts.

Court Street and Atlantic Avenue are the main commercial streets in the neighborhood. You will find popular Middle Eastern restaurants on Atlantic Avenue. Court Street is home to casual restaurants, many with outdoor seating, relaxed cafes and hip bars.

Many young professionals and families live in the brownstones, townhouses, and single-family homes that line the leafy streets. Cobble Hill is a great place to live if you work on Wall Street, as you can walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to work.
