Property Description for 434 West 20th Street, 4

Only one flight up and located on one of the most beautiful blocks in the city, a tranquil, tree-lined street in the heart of Chelsea, this elegantly designed 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home resides in a 25-foot-wide stately townhouse built in 1856. The entry foyer features dramatic arches reflective of the stunning architectural details throughout and leads to the expansive, sun-filled living room, which offers a flexible alcove that can be created into a fourth bedroom or an inviting den. A grand marble, wood-burning fireplace serves as the centerpiece for sophisticated living, along with 11-foot ceilings, a classic chandelier and three oversized custom windows, with extraordinary views of the lavish grounds of the General Theological Seminary. The kitchen boasts endless storage with floor-to-ceiling, custom-built wood cabinetry, marble countertops (with seating) and backsplash, and stainless Bosch and GE appliances, including a wine fridge. A dining area adjoins the kitchen, designed with oak flooring and a marble-bordered inlay. The large master bedroom is both quiet and sunlit, with oversized windows and ceiling fan. The spa-like, master bathroom features a free-standing soaking tub, glass-enclosed walk-in shower, chic marble flooring, and an adjoining oversized walk-in-closet. The second bedroom has an ornate marble mantled WBFP, recessed lighting and a custom closet with overhead storage. The third bedroom also has recessed lighting, a large custom closet and views over a sunny garden. A windowed hall bathroom for these bedrooms offers marble tiling (subway pattern on the walls / basket weave pattern for the floor), and a soaking tub. Modern accommodations have been installed in this luxury home, with a Sonos sound system set up throughout the living room, kitchen, dining room and master bedroom, all remotely controlled. In addition, there is central air/heat, updated electrical, beautifully refinished walnut stained oak flooring, custom window treatments, picture frame and crown moldings, and a washer/dryer. Two storage units also come with the home. Only one flight up and the only apartment on the floor, this home is a fine example of privacy and sophistication. Pets allowed. 434 W. 20th Street sits on one of Chelsea's most coveted streets, with elegant townhouses and buildings, picturesque flower beds, and lush trees. Clement Clarke children's park, plentiful restaurants, cafes, clothing boutiques, Whole Foods and other grocery stores nearby along 9th and 10th Avenues. Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
