Property Description for 401A Monroe Street, TWNH

Built in 1891, this rarely offered single family townhouse is on the market for rent. 401A Monroe Street is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath triplex with finished basement and private backyard oasis.

Enter the home on the parlor level to find soaring ceilings, original hardwood floors, and a beautiful decorative fireplace. The owner of the house has designed and built a custom window seat with storage in the living room. You can find his work throughout the house adding charm and convenience with every handmade project. The original tin ceilings, pocket doors, and light fixtures remind you of the quality of architecture during this era.

The sunny living room gives way to the kitchen where you can find stainless steel appliances with dishwasher, microwave, and garbage disposal. The kitchen is centered with a custom island handmade by owner. Enjoy looking out your window onto the yard while you prepare dinner or entertain guests.

On the top floor of this spacious house are two well proportioned king sized bedrooms that are bathed in light all day. Each bedroom is equipped with a closet and features a decorative fireplace with painted brick. There is a full renovated bath on this level with tub. Sun peeks through the stained glass sky light on this level throughout the day.

The first level of this house can be strategically used as a mother in law or guest suite as it has its own private garden entrance! However, this level easily flows from within the house if you plan on using every floor regularly. This level features 2 sizeable bedrooms with a full bath complete with original claw foot tub, laundry room, and access to the garden. Enjoy sipping morning coffee in your yard or dining al fresco with friends in the summer months!

There is a finished basement that is great for a music/art studio, playroom, home office, or just extra storage.

The apartment is located near local favorites like Saraghina, Peaches Hothouse, LunAtico, and Sincerely, Tommy to name a few. Commute to Manhattan on the C train located at Kingston-Throop Aves and use the G at Bedford Nostrand for your Brooklyn and Queens transportation. Herbert Von King Park is a quick jaunt away for those who like extra green space!

Available for September 15-October 1 move in. No pets please.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
