Property Description for 85 73rd Street

Ideally located on a tranquil tree-lined street just one and a half block from Shore Road and near many parks and the bay, this architecturally unique, visually stunning and elegant two-story limestone is one of the more gracious homes of Bay Ridge and of a style that rarely comes available on the market. Fronted with an unusually expansive slated terrace, this impeccably kept 20 ft. wide and extra deep home has retained many original details and boasts high ceilings and sky lights throughout. The first floor with a formal entry is made up of a grand double-parlor living room graced with tall windows and a decorative fire place, a formal oak-paneled dining room with a stained glass ceiling, a kitchen and a half bathroom. It extends into a light-filled sun room in the back with sky lights, wrap-around windows and a gas fire place, and finally to a decked backyard with trees. The second floor has three bedrooms that are converted from four and can be easily changed back to the original four. The master bedroom has a working fireplace and the over-sized master bath had two sky lights, a bath tub and a separate shower stall. New master bathroom renovation. There is another half bath and a large hallway closet as well. The spacious finished basement offers ample space for storage and other use. This special home, perfect for entertaining and family life, is truly a must see.

Bay Ridge | Brooklyn

Lush front yards and trimmed hedges are pretty common in Bay Ridge.

Quick Profile

Bay Ridge is an old-world neighborhood neatly tucked into the southwest corner of Brooklyn within the shadows of the Verrazano Bridge. The neighborhood is encircled by the Belt Parkway along the shore line and the Gowanus Expressway inland.

Bay Ridge, long known for its generational pull, has historically been home to a diverse number of ethnic groups. While the area is flush with people of Irish, Italian and Greek descent, these ethnic communities have been joined by larger numbers of new groups, including people with Russian, Polish, Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds. The Arab American community today in Bay Ridge represents the largest concentration of Arab Americans in New York City.

For many years, Bay Ridge and its waterside location, would attract the affluent. But most of the mansions that once lined Shore Road are long gone and have been replaced by six-story apartment buildings.

Aside from the low-rise apartment buildings, the neighborhood pretty much consists of one and two-family homes. Lush front yards and trimmed hedges are pretty common here.

Current zoning and limitations on building heights restrict any out of the norm development. At present, the future beholds small development on some of the commercial strips and teardowns of older homes for smaller residential projects.
