Property Description for 507 West 111th Street, 1

Nestled off the beautiful lobby of a turn of the century pre-war elevator coop is this spacious and bright south facing one bedroom (convertible 2 bedroom) apartment with in-unit washer and dryer! Originally a 4 room apartment with a separate dining room, the dining and living rooms have since been combined to create a warm and open environment perfect for entertaining. Three oversized south facing windows overlook the quiet tree lined street and provide a soft and gentle glow of lovely light all day long. There is a wall of built-in bookshelves, deep window sills with integrated storage, and a full height closet in the foyer. The former dining room, with its entire wall of floor to ceiling closets, could be converted to a proper second bedroom. The large windowed kitchen has abundant counter and cabinetry space, a whirlpool dishwasher, full size refrigerator, gas range, and a Bosch washer and dryer. The rear facing bedroom can easily accommodate a queen size bed and the bathroom is perfectly located off the foyer allowing your guests access without traversing the bedroom. Bring your contractor and make this gem your own! The Blennerhasset is a pet friendly prewar elevator coop with a video intercom system, children’s playroom / residents lounge with ping pong table, library and piano, landscaped garden with basketball hoop and seating, central laundry, bike racks, storage room (waitlist) and a live out super. The building recycles fabric and composts. Conveniently located in Morningside Heights, you are a block from the 1 train, near the B/C trains, numerous bus lines (M104, M4, M11, M7, M60) and close to Columbia University, Riverside Park, numerous supermarkets (Westside Market, H Mart and Fairway) and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Reasonable co-op policies allow for guarantors, co-purchasing, gifting and sublets on a case by case basis, but pied a terres are not allowed. Current monthly assessment of $140.44 is for roof replacement and is in effect until Dec 31, 2020

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
