Property Description for 223 Hancock Street

Before it was a landmark. Before it became Instagrammable. Before it echoed the heartbeat of a neighborhood. Before it reignited a market. It was just a sketch. A simple, Passionate, Intoxicating, Vision on a street. Designed to inspire generations, Stimulate dreams And redefine expectations. The truth is, 223 Hancock is more than an address, it's an experience. The kind that is life changing and makes you believe in destiny if you don't already. I could tell you about the warm glow that shines into each bedroom. I could describe the modern upgrades to the bathrooms of this multifamily home. I could provocatively point out the lofty 10-foot original detail ceilings. Or, the charming story behind the beautiful and extra wide 100-year old parlor door. I could detail the current owner's architectural plans to turn this 4-family brownstone into a 2-family duplex. I could even tell you about a great architect and general contractor who specialize in historic homes. I could rattle off the brands of the appliances and how the best of class mechanicals are under 3 years old. I could even rave on about the mint condition roof. And finally, I could seduce you with an image of you entertaining guests while seated around a fire pit in the garden. I could name drop the local night life spots like Saraghina, Eugene's, Chez Oskar. But here's the thing about 223 Hancock . . . the experience is whatever you want it to be. The start of an investment empire, an escape from the city, more breathing room, an artist's playground, or the backdrop for all your family memories.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
