Property Description for 593 Carlton Ave

Located on a quaint, treelined block in Prospect Heights, 593 Carlton Avenue is a magnificent 20' wide townhome that boasts roughly 3300 square feet of interior living space and includes an expansive and meticulous ground floor apartment. This elegant two-family home is comprised of five bedrooms and three bathrooms spanning four floors as well as additional storage space on the cellar level. Completely renovated in 2012 with new electrical and plumbing. The home was renovated to restore original solid walnut doors and moldings as well as the staircase. It was designed with the utmost elegance and is truly an exemplar of contemporary Brooklyn charm. The original solid walnut banister is the centerpiece of the entry foyer, which has plenty of space for coats and shoes and welcomes guests into the parlour level of the home. To the left is a spacious great room with floor-to-ceiling windows that naturally light the entire space. Soaring 12 feet ceilings throughout, the great room spills over into the large dining room which can serve as an ideal gathering spot for guests. The airy eat-in-kitchen - with a massive wooden island serving as the centerpiece of the room - ties together the main floor and is adorned with new appliances including Wolf range, Bosch dishwasher, and top-of-the-line Samsung refrigerator and freezer. The kitchen will be receiving new marble countertops, but interested buyers also have the opportunity to make the kitchen their own. From the kitchen, we are led outdoors into a magical, artfully designed garden. Here you are greeted by a young lilac bush, perennial geraniums, forsythias, Japanese Maples, and more. An entertainer's dream, the gorgeous landscaping is of unmatched exclusivity, enclosed by a custom-built brick backdrop, a modern cedar fence and Ipe deck and full of breathtaking foliage. The remainder of the triplex currently features four generously sized bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a LG heavy-duty washer and dryer, numerous walk-in closets, restored stone fireplaces in every room, and two spacious alcoves. Special features include Hansgrohe shower fixtures, Toto toilets, an Acryline Bath tub, Bespoke medicine cabinets, original Red Oak flooring, and a large skylight for additional natural light on the fourth floor.

The spacious garden level of this stunning Brownstone has a separate entrance and is completed with an eat in kitchen, mud room, walk-in closet, full bathroom, and open-concept living area and can be used as a rental. The cellar provides plenty of storage space and is easily accessible from the main portion of the home.

Prospect Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Prospect Heights is a small residential neighborhood surrounded by big attractions. It’s rich in culture and offers the perfect blend of old Brooklyn charm and modern-day hipness.

Residents of this tight-knit community include young professionals, families and long-time residents. It’s a walkers paradise - just steps from Prospect Park and a short walking distance to neighborhoods like Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Green and Clinton. You’re close to culture too. Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Library, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Barclays Center are all nearby.

Prospect Heights is bordered by Flatbush Avenue to the west, Washington Avenue to the east, Atlantic Avenue and Dean Street to the north and Eastern Parkway to the south.

Prospect Heights, like many areas of New York City, was first inhabited by indigenous tribes and eventually settled by the Dutch and turned into farmland.

A significant part of the Revolutionary War was fought in Prospect Heights and the surrounding areas. Known as the Battle of Brooklyn, it was the first military engagement following the Declaration of Independence. Things didn’t go so well for American forces so they retreated and the British occupied Manhattan for several years after the Battle of Brooklyn.

In 1867, the opening of Prospect Park caused major housing growth in Prospect Heights. The middle-class neighborhood was soon populated by Jewish, Italian, and Irish workers. Many of which were shop-owners or employed as laborers in nearby factories.

Housing in Prospect Heights includes single-family row houses, historic townhouses, co-ops, and new luxury condos. The median listed price for a 1-bedroom in Prospect Heights is $680,000 with an average price per square foot is $944.

The neighborhood's commercial artery runs along Vanderbilt Avenue and Washington Avenue. The variety of businesses adds to the charm of the neighborhood. They include bars, pubs, restaurants and mom-and-pop stores of all types. The shops and eateries are a perfect alternative to the big-name attractions that bracket the neighborhood. It's a little bit of everything in this neighborhood.

Subways are plentiful in Prospect Heights. Its proximity to Manhattan is another perk of the neighborhood. It's about a half-hour train ride. The B, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4 and 5 subway lines all serve the Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center station. 2, 3, 4, B and Q trains cover the neighborhood and the A and C trains are nearby too.
