Property Description for 798 Greene Ave

Currently configured as a fabulous one family, this legal two family residence spans 3000 SF over four stories on a quintessential Bedford-Stuyvesant brownstone block. Enter up the stoop to a charming and eclectic double parlor floor with a wood-burning fireplace for the cold winter nights. A smaller room on this floor makes a cozy study. Continue downstairs to the chef's dream - an oversized, industrial eat-in kitchen featuring a show-stopping, extra long 150 year old heart of pine reclaimed countertop island with a stainless steel double trough sink, a restaurant-style 6 burner Garland stove with griddle and double oven, and a double door glass display refrigerator. Access to an urban garden oasis, a neat powder room, and a sitting area complete this impressive level with its beautiful clear maple floors. On the third floor, find two large bedrooms, one with a modern dark walnut accent wall, connected by a large walk-in closet and full bath. A third, smaller bedroom on this floor, makes another wonderful home office or nursery. On the fourth floor, enjoy a dedicated laundry room featuring an oversized front-loading GE washer and dryer set, a hand-wash sink, and folding countertop. Two more large bedrooms, again connected by a walk-in closet with full bathroom, give so much room and possibility. Gorgeous pine and oak floors, great sunlight, and a fantastic layout - this residence is the rare find, combining updated mechanicals, clean design, and a subtle nod to Brownstone Brooklyn history. Right off of Lewis Avenue, 798 Greene Avenue is steps away from the many great amenities of this vibrant Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, including long-time notable anchors Saraghina and Peaches. Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
