Property Description for 779 Putnam Ave

779 Putnam Ave is the inviting two-family townhouse you have been looking for. Cozy up to the wood-burning fireplace or watch the leaves change from your backyard deck, just one of the many features that make this house the epitome of serenity. Originally constructed in 1899, and completely renovated in 2017, this brownstone is 20-feet-wide and has approximately 2900 square feet of living space. It features 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 1 powder room, a large parlor deck, and an expansive, custom landscaped backyard. From the American Walnut floors to the thoughtfully designed molding and restored mantles, attention to detail can be found throughout this well-appointed home. With lots of exposed brick, coupled with a full security system, Nest thermostats and custom lighting (Lutron and Caseta Wireless), this home is fully move-in ready. As you enter the owner's three-bedroom duplex, the foyer beckons you with a classic layout into the formal living area and pocket doors lead into the fully appointed kitchen. The living room, with a wood-burning fireplace, offers a great space for entertaining. Past the original pocket doors, the eat-in kitchen features a decorative fireplace, custom cabinetry with butcher's block countertops, and large casement windows looking out to the backyard. With a farmhouse sink and a full complement of appliances including Viking refrigerator, Wolf six-burner stove, and pot-filler, this kitchen is a chef's dream. The backyard garden can be accessed via a large deck off of the kitchen and your evening's relaxation spot is made magical with the twinkle of strategically placed lighting and mature plantings. Upstairs you'll find 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The elegant master bedroom faces the serene backyard garden and features three windows and double California closets with custom lighting. The sky lit master bath is adorned with marble tiled floors, an expansive double vanity with a backlit mirror, and a glass-enclosed rain shower. As you head down the sky lit hall, you'll pass a laundry room with double stacked LG washer/dryer, a second full bathroom with skylight, adjacent to the two additional and comfortable bedrooms, each with walk-in closets. The private, finished basement can be accessed through an interior staircase just past the parlor floor powder room. This area has been transformed into a comfortable entertainment space, great for watching this season’s games. There is a separate garden floor unit with 2 bedrooms, 1 full bath (with washer/dryer hookup), full kitchen, living room, private entrance and access to the serene backyard. This unit can serve as an income-producing property, an in-law apartment, a separate living quarters for those with dependent adult children, or a home office space. This masterfully re-imagined townhouse is located on a beautiful, tree-lined street in the heart of Stuyvesant Heights. You are moments away from great dining establishments such as L'Antagoniste, Chez Oskar, The Willy, Saraghina's, and Peaches as well as three local parks that feature playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts. There is a grocery store as well as a brand new children’s daycare/playground on the corner of Malcolm X and Putnam. Nearby public transportation includes the A/C & J trains or the Halsey B26, and JFK is a short 20-minute drive. Additionally, the acclaimed Coop School recently opened a few short blocks away, which is quickly becoming a draw to the neighborhood.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
