Property Description for 870 United Nations Plaza, 23/24-C

870 UNITED NATIONS PLAZA, APT 23/24C - MIDTOWN EAST

VIRTUAL TOUR AVAILABLE. E-mail the listing agent directly for a private showing. Start everyday with breathtaking views of the morning sunrise over Manhattan’s iconic cityscape and the East River. This is a tremendous opportunity to purchase a high-floor 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath home offering stunning vistas from every window in the apartment. Northeast facing, over-sized windows let in incredible indirect light throughout the day, while keeping the apartment cooler in the afternoon.

This fabulous, sun-filled duplex boasts roughly 3,000 square feet of living space with elegant, high-end finishes such as coffered ceilings, updated base boards, crown molding, and custom built-ins. The space was thoughtfully designed by architect Mark Matthews, a disciple of Norman Jaffe. This super rare, duplex layout can only be found on floors 23-30, and there are only three other apartments like it in 870 UNP with a much lower total monthly maintenance compared with the other duplexes in the complex.

The lower level of this magnificent home features a great room with expansive views of Manhattan and the river. There is an eat-in kitchen, chef’s pantry, home office/library, full laundry room with new Bosch washer and dryer, and one and a half baths. The living room is accented with beautiful espresso floors, while the kitchen is embellished with 450 million year old Kirkstone flooring imported from England.

The Upper level of this beautiful apartment has four over-sized bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Each room has large windows, spectacular views, and ample closet space. The separation of the bedrooms and living area makes this home ideal for entertaining, and provides additional privacy and noise reduction for the upper floor.

870 United Nations Plaza is a 38-story apartment and office complex that commands outstanding views of the United Nations, Midtown East, the East River, Brooklyn and Queens. The prestigious full-block project was built in 1966 by Harrison & Abramowitz, which also served as the lead architects for the United Nations headquarters, the Time-Life building at Rockefeller Center, and the master plan for Lincoln Center. The towers are adjacent to the MacArthur Playground and across the street from the Peter Detmold Park Dog Park. With a staff of 46 and on-site manager Emmet Hegarty of Orsid Realty. The United Nations Plaza exceeds all contemporary standards for a luxurious life, fulfilling today’s expectations for privacy in magnificent surroundings.

Over the years, the building has been home to many prominent people such as Truman Capote, Robert Kennedy, Johnny Carson, Richard Avedon and Walter Cronkite. It is located on a quiet street next to the East River with a private driveway offering short term parking to the owners and there is an onsite parking garage offering monthly options too. The lobby features triple height ceilings, red carpet, glass chandeliers, and beautiful flowers. United Nations Plaza is a full service building with 24 hour doorman, concierge, live-in superintendent and on-site managing agent. The service is simply superb. Amenities include a planted roof garden with spectacular view. There is a well-equipped fitness center with a Pilate’s room, a game room with ping pong, billiards table and a golf simulator. Push a button and you can play the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. The 7th and 8th floors feature studios apartments that can be purchased for live-in staff.

The building is pet friendly, permits 75% financing and pied-a-terres. A very large private, individual storage bin is included with the sale of the apartment. There are additional monthly charges for unlimited utilities. Apartments can be purchased in a Qualified Personal Residential Trust. International buyers are permitted with acceptable USA based assets. Please note SHOWINGS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please email or call us directly to schedule an appointment.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
