Enjoy the open city views to the north and south from this stylishly renovated high floor, five room residence with a private terrace at the Butterfield House, 37 West 12th Street. This floor-through apartment is flooded with light from the oversized windows on both ends of the home. The tranquil, courtyard facing terrace is accessible from both the living room and the master bedroom suite.
Upon entering the residence, which is one of only four apartments on the floor, you experience the vast expanse of the space from the center entrance gallery. The living room, with direct access to the terrace, offers a wonderful and versatile entertaining space with open views of lower Manhattan. The grand formal dining room sits across the foyer with northern views including the Empire State Building. The renovated windowed kitchen is adorned with custom solid wood cabinetry, high-end appliances and beautiful stone counters. The kitchen boasts everything you need for both elaborate and simple home-cooked meals with an abundance of pantry space. An adjacent dining nook is currently configured as a home office with a beautiful northern facing window offering a stunning place to accomplish daily goals.
The generously proportioned master bedroom has two large closets, southern exposures as well as separate access to the terrace. The large second bedroom is currently configured as a den and home office with incredibly stylish, modern solid wood paneling, built-in cabinetry, and two large closets. This room is easily useable as both a grand-scale bedroom with plenty of space for a full and separate office area. Both bathrooms are renovated and there are new solid wood parquet floors throughout the home.
The Butterfield House could not be more conveniently located especially if your preferred mode of transportation is walking: a 5 minute walk to Union Square and all of its available shopping, a 10 minute walk to Chelsea and the Meatpacking District, and a short walk to midtown and lower Manhattan. If you want to stay in the neighborhood you are of course surrounded by the best of Gold Coast Greenwich Village with close proximity to all transportation, the Union Square Farmers Market, Whole Foods, and Citarella.
The landmarked building is considered one of the most important and beautiful post World War II apartment houses in New York City. Built in 1962 by Architects Mayer, Whittlesey and Glass, residents of this pet-friendly, white glove cooperative enjoy an architecturally significant garden and lobby, resident manager, a full-time doorman, a reasonably priced on-site garage, state of the art fitness facility, bike room, separate storage, and a central laundry room.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
